Just got a record deck after many years without. Playing a load of my old records, while sat on the sofa doing some paperwork (and surfing on here).
So far this morning I've had Metallica, Ozric Tentacles, Oasis and Marillion.
Next up, some Motorhead.
So, what albums from your youth would you like to hear again?

Quiet life Japan
I got a turntable for my birthday last year & i love it . Ride on a Saturday morning , then clean the bikes in the cellar listening to all my old stuff .
I'm lucky that we've an excellent shop in Wakefield ( Wah Wah Records ) that stocks a lot of what i like & so every time i go into town they get a visit .
Going to end up costing a fair bit in the long run though - fancy a better player in the front room & they cost a fair bit for something decent ( more than a Shimano xt m8000 groupset for instance ! )
You have heard of itunes and spotify and all these new fangled electronical services?
Failing that ...... coz i'm in a 90's British metal mood today.
Little Angels - Don't Prey for Me
Thunder - Backstreet Symphony
i got a project elemental 2 for xmas and am loving the sound of all my old reccords even with pops and crackles the quality of sound is so much better than my mp3s and cds.
Lots of new vinyl comes with a code for a free mp3 download so you can savour on your mp3 device too.
Having never been without a turntable since the age of about 10 I simply have the joy of discovering records I forgot I had. Recently I dug out some obscure southern American hip hop. Gigolo Tony and some break beat albums.
I've pretty much got it all on CD/MP3. I still have my old vinyl but it has a thick veneer of hairspray from being played as I prep'd for a night out 🙂
If I have to pick.....In Heaven by The Meteors followed by Night Time by Killing Joke
Good tip re. free MP3s, I'll give that a go for in the van.
Good call re. Thunder PP, might have to put the radio on later for Planet Rock. They play that all the time.
Black Sabbath next, and a nice cup of tea.

I've been very music enjoying my Rising High "Secret Life of Trance" volumes 1 and 2 recently.
Sigh. I had a limited edition 'DJ only' triple gatefold copy of Leftfield's 'Leftism' BITD. Sold when skint 🙁 The phasey stereo sound on 'Stand Together' on the Beastie Boys' 'Check Your Head' sounds awesome on vinyl, you can't get it loud enough on CD!
My and OH are thinking about buying a turntable but then we'd need to start obsessing about vinyl again which could get jolly spendy jolly quickly...
Eat Static next 🙂

I just look at the covers nowadays (whilst listening to spotify)
I had a limited edition 'DJ only' triple gatefold copy of Leftfield's 'Leftism'
Still have mine. I'll put it on next 😉
Beastie Boys' 'Check Your Head'
...and then I'll put this on 😀
As a bit of a eighties/nineties American alternative music fan, i'm always on the lookout for stuff from that era......Sonic Youth, Husker Du, Buffalo Tom, Breeders, Pixies etc.
Never really been without a turntable, always liked them for the tactile enjoyment i've never got with CD's or MP3's. Currently on a 13 year old Technics 1210, built like a tank but I do covet the current crop of turntables not aimed at DJ's
And this bad mofo works over bluetooth
Finally got round to getting ours set up. My dad gave me all his old records which includes;
Led zep 1, 2 and 3. All original press in mint condition
Cat Stevens back catalogue, original press including first single "I Love my dog"
The who live at Leeds, original.
Oh, and the smarties party album.
My uncle has the bob Dylan back catalogue but refuses to give me it.
Bought royal blood and some black keys to modernize it a bit.
must be getting on for twenty years since since my sons friend piped up "oh they're those massive CD's they're really ancient aren't they?" as I chucked another record on the record machine
still loving the vinyl & local pub hosts a vinyl night each month & we each get to play a few tracks - next months theme "religion" should be fun 🙂
That last turntable belongs in the Ouch my eye thread.
Vinyl is still my default. I never really bought any cds, and mp3s are great for the turbo trainer or in thy car, but what I'd really like is to rescue some of my old cassettes. Loads of obscure mixtapes and bootlegs. If my dad hasn't binned them all.
I'm getting into enough grief with room for CDs. I'm not sure what would happen if I pulled my old vinyl and turntable out.
What I'd like to hear again? First Utterance by Comus. The original vinyl is as rare as hen's teeth but I have got one tucked away safely!
I had a limited edition 'DJ only' triple gatefold copy of Leftfield's 'Leftism'
Still have mine. I'll put it on next 😉
Cut For Life, turn it up to 11 and wait for the donk to drop (around 1:48)! 😀
I find vinyl a pain in the ass especially when it comes to moving house . But I love the sound and can't sell any of it , especially as I can quite often remember when I bought it etc. memories attached to the actual purchase not just listening .
I've recently inherited my dads record collection too . 6000 vinyl LPS that need to be shipped over to me . Time to reinforce the floor
I didn't have vinyl as a kid but I've been buying vinyl copies of some of my favourites or getting them as gifts. Saying that I went bought myself 4 LPs of new stuff, new to me anyway. £60 though and I was torn about the fact I could have bought twice as many on CD, especially when I couldn't find a way of getting the free downloads onto my mp3 player from either laptop.
That last turntable belongs in the Ouch my eye thread.
Mitchell Gyrodeck, a thing of real beauty when it's turning, and a stunning piece if engineering. Appeared in A Clockwork Orange, IIRC.
Been gradually selling off my vinyl, although I've still got my turntable, and even if I got it working again, (speed-control board has gone on the fritz), I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be paying the sort of prices being asked for vinyl these days, a gave it up in 1982 because of the dreadful quality, and the royal pita it was trying to keep the disks dust free, and getting tracking right, etc.
6000 vinyl LPS
wow just blimin wow
I'm really looking forward to going to one of these nights, they look like they have some serious kit:
That Michell has been on my wishlist for a long time. With 2 young children though it will have to wait. Gorgeous looks, gorgeous sound, my friend used to sell them. Mine is an Old systemdek. A linn beater many say. I preferred it when I heard it next to an lp12. Stantons and technics have come and gone, I wish I'd kept a 1210/1200 though.
Due to an imminent house move, we've just got rid of lots of LPs to a local record shop - quickest £120 I've ever made 😀
Sold my Planar 3 years back but couldn't bring myself to sell the vinyl.
500 plus albums with clicks, nicks and cshhshshs all where I remember.
Bought An RP6 about this time Last year....
I think I was a bit unkind to my LPs as I still listen to my CDs, that replaced my LPs, waiting for the jumps and scratches in certain tracks. The only thing I miss from LPs are the covers. When's 8 track going to come back into fashion I've still got a player and about twenty albums in the shed?
i still have and occasionally use an old systemdek 1.
still sounds great, i enjoy listening to vinyl more than any other format, i can't explain why though.
early marillion, led zep, rush, boston
Still struggling to think of anything from when I used to buy vinyl that I haven't already got on CD, that I'd want to buy on CD, with one exception; an album called 'Just Another Clown', by a singer/songwriter called Colin Scot. His eponymous first album has been remastered and rereleased on CD and iTunes, it has a huge list of famous names from British folk and prog on it, but his second and third albums aren't available digitally, and I never did get 'Blue Sky', his third album.
That's about it.
