It would of been rude not to fire it all up again :-).
Might get another car as one of the ancient Ferrari GT330 conked out 🙁

that is old
43 years ... omg
Cool, liking the M1.
The M1 rips along and is relatively new [cough]. The Ferrari well.... they drift good 🙂

I spy a Goodwood chicane, always wanted one of those.
cripes! that transformer and ferrari ARE old. i had one of those bimmers! had some of those old banking and bridge bits too. nice!
I've got two of the original Maserati cars up in the loft, I'll dig 'em out and post pics tomorrow
Wow, just ug out my dads old scalextric which must be a similar vintage. Bit of wire wool to remove the rust on a few tracks and we were good to go.
Same powerpak and slightly newer controllers. Have lost the green banking wedges but the edge of track fencing means real high speed.
3 yr old loved it

Careful now...
You'll soon want another transformer (one per lane, so one car going off doesn't immediately give the other track more juice!), then you'll discover how incredibly quick and road (track) hugging some of the newer Magnetron cars are (e.g. 911 GT1).
I had that M1, it was ace... Always breaking the cables off the motor though I remember, taught me how to solder that did (perhaps not very well!)
Next week I'll be on here advertising a couple of digital sets (fully boxed) and some old analogue stuff my son has for sale.
Watch yourself. I bought a tenners worth of old kit from somebody on here a couple of years a go and it all got out of control. 😀
Latest purchase
Head to head
19ft straight
Some cars
Power laps
POWERRRRR!
Oooh I need one complete bend, my set has the steep banked ones which are pants.
Redthunder it might just be the little cog that's gone, do you get full power when you just lift the back wheels?
HtS, that, sir, is superb!

Ebay is your friend. Scalextric Classic track goes for buttons.
Cheers. I pulled my set out of the council tip. It was all there, but the cars didn't move. Put the tag in the slot and the wheels span, but as soon as you put the cars down they stopped.
Met an old boy at a market and 50p later I had working cars, just two little cogs was all that was needed 😀
Bought a Subaru Impreza snow version and a Focus rally Africa version, to replace the two Mondeos it came with. Hours of fun.
I hope no women are looking at this 😳
That's not proper old. The original has metal tongues on the slots and you have to assemble upside down with some horrendously sharp clips.
Oh... Don't clean your rails with wire wool. It damages the surface and you'll get arcing and a carbon build up.
Use one of those plastic/foam pan scrubber things.
I dug my mid80's stuff out two years ago. The track needs cleaning and the tyres had gone off, the cars just wheelspan. I'll try the pan scrubber thing. I've got a loop the loop, which seem rare-ish and good fun. The Le Mans Jag and Porsche don't like it though
Harry, whats the track under the lap times all about? Looks crash-tastic.
Flapjack, [s]how old is proper old? We had a few bits of track as kids, it never really got used but the few times I tried I remember the track had metal tongues, I think the tracks connected together with four loop bits. I suspect my parents have got rid, is it worth anything?[/s]
Edit: Actually its the same as the spare track in the third pic.
Poor electrical connections can usually be solved by gently nipping the side of the rails slightly together at the end with some needle nose pliers before joining the track sections.
I am loving this thread.

Pit lane. It is a bit shit TBH.
I do have some proper old scalextric cars (fangio era design), was looking for an online picture but can't find anything that looks exactly right.
They tyres are a really hard compound and rather than a little rail to keep them in the slot they just have a pin. They are pretty interesting to drive as you can't just whack the power down and even slightly overcooking it on a corner will cause them to leave the track.
Can Ams made by Carrera. £17.50 each
If you are not fussy you can get new cars for about £20 each. Have a look at SCX brand. They went bust a few years back and have been re launched. Therefore a lot of their slightly older stock is getting shifted on at a reasonable price. The newest stuff is about £35 rrp.
Weird - the yellow controller in the photo above invoked a strong memory of the smell of a hot scalextric car, and the rasping sound of the contact along the bar as you pulled the trigger.
Something my brain has stored away for 30 years.
scalextric is absolutely ace.
This is real mans work! none of that shed building nonsense! My Scalextric was about 67/68 vintage. I remember the cars had actual steering. Must go and get my sons set out now!
Marvellous. I set up a Scalextric track on the platform area in our living room; the wife wasn't too pleased at first, but most weekends we have friends visiting with children, so it's a fantastic way to keep the little bastards occupied for long periods. We also get them involved in constricting trackside buildings; there's several bridges, garages, a grandstand and a scoreboard. Blue Peter cardboard tat heaven. 😀
Harry_the_Spider; that's a great track. Envious of the space you have for the 19ft straight! And all the cars, although our lot would destroy that lot in no time. I need to get some more straight bits and some cheap bashable cars (can you just buy bodyshells?).
Scalextric do impact resistant ones. I've got two of them - Audi TTs in the group shots.
TBH the SCX Ferrari 360s (blue one with the MK2 Escort and 3 others in the group shot) are as tough as old boots. The Astons need to have their mirrors stuck back on every now and again. The F1 cars are just too fragile so don't get played with.
I've been told to pack it all away now 🙁 As it was beginning to spread 🙂

Love all the posts above.. Some great set-ups you all have 🙂
POO 505R, enough said.
I've been trawling t'interweb all afternoon to see if the boxes these cars are on are original....any ideas?
Hary The Spider I am man enough to admit I am sooo envious and jealous of your scalextrix set-up, that is sooo cool! If I had a kid I'd build the same thing. Can I have a go? Scalextrix is a direct link into my inner child 😀 I really want to see some one-upmanship on this thread.. c'mon now..
@HtS - how many little brothers and sisters needed to stick crashed cars back on that track? Absolutely lovin it! My dad resurrected ours for the grand kids and been having a load of fun with the Saudi Williams and March 6 wheeler recently. New tyres were essential in resurrecting ours. Even got Stick Shifter and Fender Bender chucking 180s and 360s too.
Doffs cap to Harry the Spider.
Spotted our boxes last night in the loft whilst looking for something else, so want to pull it out but live in a much smaller house now so it would be for an hour or two. We use to own a large open plan office so a super track would go down for a week or two during the hols.
Do like the old Scalextrix but our other set of tracks by NInco works so much better. We even have some converters that join the two together.
Will get cars out for pics, two are my father's old slot car racers, a Lola which is very fast - monsters the Scalextrix cars and and interesting 1930s Mercedes with four wheel drive with steering front wheels, not as quick as some but like glue on the corners.
