can I view my laptop on my tv via hdmi output on laptop to hdmi input on tv?
Yes - it'll just work
Yup - have one permanently plugged into the telly for exactly that purpose.
Yes.
(Again).
cheers lads
no need to spunk a load of cash on a smart tv now.
just make sure you buy a really long hdmi cable so you can still read stw and ebay comfortably while watching a film

I actually make sure the laptop is right next to the telly, so I watch the film and am not tempted!
I've got a few cables from 'That Cable' including a nice long one for the laptop - highly recommended:

Got one of these last week Ton.
Turns your telly into a smart TV and you can stream all sorts to it from a lap top that is on anywhere in the house via the home wifi router.
I also got a 3TB network hard drive and have put a load of movies on it as well as all my music.
A bit OTT from your OP but a great toy non the less.
those hdmi cable prices are a bit steep.
I sell hdmi stuff at work, our 10m lead is £12.99 iirc.

Aaaaaah - but these have added snake oil, see..?
What do you want to watch Tony? If it's iPlayer, 4OD & Demand 5 then the NowTV box @ £9.99 takes some beating for convenience. You need a NowTV account, but that's free.
If you buy a PS4, you get a free HDMI cable chucked in.
Anyone do something like a Powerline adapter that supports HDMI?
For some laptops you will need a separate audio connection ( Apple for example)
At least I did

That's some epic man maths... 😉
My mate has got the google chromecast wireless HDMI Plug in and thinks it's the best thing ever...

That should only be if you're using a DVI - HDMI adapter as DVI doesn't carry an audio signal (not Apple issue rather than which port it is).
If you're doing thunderbolt or display-port (I think, certainly later ones) to HDMI - or HDMI built into the laptop - it should be fine as these carry audio signals.

bought one last week. £37 i think from amazon. its the right tool for what i want but my laptops lack of power limits it unfortunately. apparently i need an intel i3 processor. as mine lacks that bit of ooomph, it wont stream local content without freezing and going blocky.
im told the next gen of android boxes are what id need, out early next year.
