I will be doing quite a bit of work with video over the coming weeks and months... mostly taking short speaking videos done with an iPhone, or interviews done on Zoom, trimming them a bit, and adding lead-in music and credits and such.
I am NOT a technically-minded sort of person, so it would help if it was pretty instinctive, but I will learn stuff if I really need to.
So, what should I be getting for myself? Is a free editor like Movavi going to be sufficient? Or should I be purchasing something?
What do you suggest?
The Photos App that comes with Windows 10 can do all this.
It’s not perfect, but it is free

LumaFusion is a paid iOS app but brilliant, well worth the money IMO. ideally with an iPad but it will run on an iPhone. Really intuitive.
I use OpenShot Video Editor - not used it a great deal but packed full of features so there might be a learning curve. Plus it's free.
check out the FREE version of "Davinci Resolve" very powerful bit of kit and loads of how to's on youtube...
Another vote for LumaFusion. Costs about 20 quid I think and will almost certainly do what you need. Loads of tutorials on YouTube
For a more complete tool, with all the complications that implies, there is the free version of Da Vinci Resolve for desktops. Beyond that you’re into big spending and Adobe Premiere.
I used to use Openshot but found Olive to have better workflow and stability.
Vegas Movie Studio is pretty good. It is the simplified version of Vegas Pro, but can still do a lot of stuff with it.
Currently available for £20 on Humble Bundle. https://www.humblebundle.com/software/your-sounds-your-movies-professional-video-and-audio-creation-software
I use Shotcut. Free, cross platform and pretty powerful but not exactly straightforward to pick up if you're not used to editing video.
If I'm away from a computer (on a tablet, etc.) I use PowerDirector, although there is a Windows app too. Not free but pretty intuitive and easy to pick up.
If you feel you've outgrown iMovie, I'd go for the to-shelf if I were you. Something like Premiere, or FCPX.
But I would recommend DaVinci Resolve. Excellent tutorial and my #1 recommendation. Only con is that it doesn't take mp3 audio tracks so you have to convert to .wav before adding it to your timeline.
I've just been messing about with the free version of NCH Videopad today on a Windows machine seems pretty good.
I'd tried DaVinci resolve, but my PC is too weed, or the GPU is.
My go tos have been pinnacle (on an old laptop) which is OK for my needs. And Movie Magix on my PC, but it's out of date for my 4k camera and I'm wanting to avoid paying for an upgrade.
I'll preserve with the free NCH Videopad and see how I get on as it seems more than enough for me, just a new system to learn.
+1 for resolve
