My OH has been ill all week with a cold and we have a wedding to attend tomorrow. Started feeling a bit iffy myself*. In desperation, paid £7 (!!!) for some of this dubious stuff. The words 'clinically proven' set alarm bells ringing, but it does at least appear to have some benefit, as I have not yet succumbed to manflu. Whether it's all in my head is up for debate.

I suspect Ben Goldacre would be displeased.

Anyone else been mug enough to buy some? Did it work?

*MTFU, I know.

If it's all in your head then it's a cold, not flu.

Vorlich Mr MC swears by the stuff, trying to not get sick (everyone around me is) as we head off diving in a week. I can't stand the stuff though makes me feel sick as the taste dribbles down throat!

Just felt the first tickle of SARs start this morning and meant to have a half-marathon on Sunday, so not best pleased. But I'm guessing if the stuff really worked, they'd be charging a lot more than 7 quid for it.

Can't go near vicks, reminds me of cheesy ravers on too many rhubarb and custards, how topical. MDMA

Used it and don't think it made any difference but kind of hard to compare. You are supposed to use it at the first sign of a cold, or so they say.

Hmm, well it's got zinc in it and there is some evidence that zinc can help prevent your catching a cold and/or reduce the duration of symptoms. You'll probably get a better effect just taking a regular zinc supplement rather than squirting the stuff up your nose, though.

Well, I have perked up a bit, but that may just be because it's Friday afternoon and the sun is shining.

I've got a cold at the moment (ruddy students and their germs), so i decided to juice any fruit or veg in my fridge: carrots, apples, celery, broccoli, bag of spinach, fresh ginger + some pear juice = horrible looking green drink which tasted surprising nice.

No idea if it is helping. Probably not.

Best remedy I have tried is zinc tablets and overdose on vitC tablets ( about 6 a day instead of 1).

Vitamin C is a waste of time, the myth came about because when you've got a cold you lose the ability to absorb vitamin C. It does not prevent colds.

Zinc works by strengthening the immune system in the mucous membranes.

Vicks First Defence works by imitating the body's own mucus and swamping the viruses then carrying them away. It also contains zinc.

Gargling three times a day with Corsodyl is VERY effective at preventing colds f you've got a sore throat.

Not rubbing your eyes or picking your nose and washing your hands as soon as you enter your house or place of work is a good way of avoiding viruses.

Day Nurse, ignore the instructions and get it down your neck! OK be reasonable but managed to work through proper flu with it.

Oh the liquid not capsules etc.

Not what I was told by our GP.
