So yesterday I bought something on Ebay and payed via PP only it managed to use someone else's PP account......

It managed to debit my wife's PP account without either of us logging into PP. We both have Ebay accounts neither of which are linked to PP (I double checked).

My wife does log into my Ebay account occasionally on her phone and this is what appears to have confused it.

She got an alert on her phone about the auction ending (as she was logged in as me on her phone). When I won and went to pay via PP, it skipped authoriation and went direct to the PP completion page so I didn't notice the account details. I assumed this was because I'd used PP just before for something else and the SMS codes it sends seem to keep PP active for a while after each authentication.

So, payment all went through normally only it didn't appear in my PP account and then my wife got an email saying her PP has been debited. Neither of us know the others PP details and both have 2 factor authentication set up to our own phones, so we can't use each others PP accounts (and never have).

I even went through keychain on my mac to see if the wife had used PP on it and it had cached her details - but no evidence of it.

Very surprising.....

There are several very annoying tick boxes to remember payment method, trust this device etc where by if they're ticked you won't need to log into PayPal to make payment from a trusted app/device.

It sounds like that's the issue.

Your wife needs to log into PayPal and remove the authorisation for eBay.

I checked both our Ebay accounts, neither are linked to PP. I've not checked the wife's PP account settings, might check that when she gets home later.

Try the other way - log in to PayPal and look at standing payment authorisations.

Is this an issue because the wife paid for it or because you bought it and she found out? 😀
