I have a Ninja air fryer thingy, I use it all the time and find it excellent.
It has an air fryer/steam mode which I use a lot. It's not pressure cooking, it is vented.
It cooks a whole chicken in 20 minutes plus pre heat time.
However, if I cook a half chicken, it is still pink after the same length of time and it needs about 3 minutes longer to cook through.
Any ideas why?
Is it the less free space causing a bit of pressure and speeding the cooking time?
Is the breast of the half chicken piece actually thicker than the breast of the whole chicken - it may be and that would increase the cooking time.
20 minutes is bonkers quick! I've recently started cooking small (1.2kg) whole chickens for chicken and chips and it takes about 45 minutes ..... but then I want it properly crispy on the outside.
..... and now I want chicken and chips !!!
Edit: That 20 minute thing sounds scary so I had a look at ninja's roast chicken recipe and it says to cook the chicken for a total of 40 minutes (this is for a pressure/air fryer.
No idea, but 20 minutes sounds very short...

Same size chicken, just cut in half.

It's crazy quick, when I first saw the timing I assumed it was a mistake.
There is about 7 or 8 minutes of pre heating as well. So it's nearly half an hour.
It also crisps the skin really well. Can't recommend it enough. Ninja 15 in 1
After more research I can only deduce that gobuchul likes raw chicken as every recipe I've found is saying 45-60 minutes (in a ninja pressure/air fryer)!
Edit: Well I dunno but it says this on the Ninja web site: Create a perfect roast chicken in under 1 hour with Steam Roast.

I promise you, it's cooked to perfection in a total of about 28 minutes.
I have one of these, can confirm it cooks an excellent roast chicken in under an hour, no idea about 28 mins though as never tried 😂 It's pretty difficult to over-cook it though as the steam keeps it very moist, so maybe 🤷♂️. Although it comes with a digital temp probe thingy so you can just leave it to sort itself out if you want.
Our Ninja takes a whole chicken about 45mins.
Is it because when its a whole chicken the breasts are nearer the heating element so cook quicker. When its half a chicken it will be much lower and therefore cooking time will be longer.

That sounds reasonable. Assume OP is using the same grill for both items.
Is there more air to heat and keep heated with smaller portion as well?

Boiling water mixed with stock cube in the pot. 3.5lbs Chicken in crisper basket.
180C for 20 minutes. Takes about 8 minutes of pre heat and then 20 minutes at cooking temperature.
Cover and rest why you make the gravy and steam your veg.
Try it - perfect roast chicken.
Every time you take the basket/tray out the air escapes and there's more air with a smaller chicken, so takes longer to heat up again.
Also, the chicken is smaller, so holds less heat. Again, longer time to heat up the air volume.
I've a duo-crips (pressure/air fryer) and it takes:
20 min pressure cook
20 min air fry, to crisp.

Sounds like the first half of this
