I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction here. My 5 year old daughter loves chocolate mousse, especially the Aero ones. But she told me the other day she can't have them anymore as they contain animal derived gelatine. I had a look through the chocolate desserts in the supermarket and they all seem to contain beef or pork gelatine. There must be something I can buy for her that is veggie safe? Yes I could make my own but I am time poor I'm afraid!

That's brilliant, thank you! It's saved me trawling round trying to find something.

You can find veggie alternatives, just have to read the labels and look for the V symbol. You can make your own as you say. "Aga Aga" is a veggie alternative to gelatine. FWIW two of my daughters are veggie so they are the source of what knowledge I have on this.

As an aside Parmesan cheese isn't vegetarian either, it has rennet in it which is a beef
extract. 😐 You can buy hard Italian cheeses which are veggie fortunately.

There is lots of chocolate mousse that is veggie friendly. Tried making your own? Aero wasn't on my radar I have to say.

Incidentally, five year old daughter? Massive respect to her for questioning such things at such an age. 🙂

I think Aero bars are ok, it's the mousse pots that are not. I knew about Parmesan not being veggie which means some pestos are not either. Waitrose and Co-Op both have the V on them though. Oh and even I know jelly babies contain gelatine!

Because I am not vegetarian it passes me by sometimes that simple things like chocolate mousse might not be "safe" for her. If it was my choice she would eat whatever she wanted but unfortunately I chose the wrong woman to have a child with.

Little one is very switched on to it all kayak. She knows that she can't have certain sweets at her friends birthday parties so brings them home and gives them to me.

As above respect to your daughter for making these life choices.

For future ref, if you can muster the time/effort mashed avocado mixed with chocolate powder makes proper-nom and healthy choc-choc mousse for puds and cake filling

She has no interest in bikes at all 🙁 She loves reading and writing, which I am really pleased about, but getting her out on a bike is nigh on impossible now.

Say goodbye to marshmallows on the fire. Veggie ones are available, but rare, expensive and not-the-same.

My daughter (bit older than yours at 19) seems to find plenty of veggie choc mousse though!
