Does anyone have a latest generation vauxhall (I presume they're all the same.... I'm referring to Corsa though if the systems are different.)
The bloody infotainment is getting increasingly annoying.... Has anyone figured out how to turn off the tip of the day and the "do you want to navigate to home?" type notifications!?
It's so bloody slow and clunky and needs so many button presses just to get radio 4 to play!! I'd use the voice recognition, but it just tells me that's unavoidable for the first minute or two of driving abs the notifications still pop up on screen.
When you first see these systems they look nice and shiny and full of function and oooo.... Look at Google maps on the big screen and good, there's an app for youtube music..... But all I want to do is put bloody radio 4 on!!
I can't help but wanted to say my wife has a Corsa hire car at the moment and hates it, the infotainment in particular. 🤣
I am still trying to work out how to stop being bombarded with fm radio at full volume until it boots enought to register the volume control.
Ots absolute shite.
Ahahhahahah. I know the former head of Infotainment systems at Stellantis. He came across from FCA group and then got increasingly side-lined by the Peugeuot mob as they went though the business wrecking things. So your Corsa, which should have got UConnect from FCA (which is under the covers a Continental system) is actually some crap Pug dug up for €0.03.
Haha yes I forgot that! It doesn't register volume changes for bloody ages!
It gets on my tits that it doesn't recognise who is driving and which profile to load based on the key. My wife always leaves the fans on full blast instead of just using the auto climate control, so they're blowing and the radio blows your head off. You try to change it but it doesn't register and instead it tells you "try turning the air conditioning off to save battery" or something equally pointless instead. And if we both get in, it might choose my profile but auto connect to her phone.
And if you've popped it in reverse before sorting all this out, the reverse cam comes on so you can't do anything else.
And that's if it's gone in reverse coz sometimes it takes several clicks before it decides you actually do want to go backwards. But not tomorrow, tomorrow it'll just be one click. Friday might be 3 or 4.
It's total chaos.
I actually like the car apart from all that, it is a nice place to be and to drive about in, but Jesus the radio thing is dire.
which should have got UConnect from FCA
I thought UConnect had been killed off a few years ago - it certainly has in my 2020 Abarth 595.
The underlying OS is known as Uconnect, it runs on hardware from conti in Fiat, Lancia, Alfa, Maserati and Jeep products but the "uconnect live" functionality has gone. If you buy a 500e today or a Tonale you get a widescreen version of the old uconnect. but if you buy a PSA, Vauxhall /Opel, or an Alfa Junior you get whatever the smeg Peugeot developed. They did the same with engines so another of my contacts who project managed the alfa engine range from 2015~2022, told them to get stuffed and now makes things in, I think, pharmaceuticals.
I was given a new 2025 Electric Vauxhall Crossland for a day when I dropped my MG HS for servicing (joint Vauxhall/MG dealership), the steering wheel controls were shite, the big screen was shite and navigation throughout the various menu systems was shite, but the audio quality from the speakers was a vast improvement over the shite 4 speakers in my MG HS
21 plate Vivaro and my older infotainment is great. Shame all manufacturers ruin stuff. I don't pay for the extras which being a bit older and a diesel, I get traffic and a SOS button and no pre-heating stuff.
This is all "mind blown" to me and my '15 plate base spec Corsa.
Thank the Lord for a decent phone mount and Waze.
2013 Mokka “infotainment” is great, nice and simple!
I think I found a secret hidden menu which prevented the AC fan powering up at the max setting. My other half drives the Corsa so she wasn't too bothered about the fan until it broke and cost £750 to fix just as the temperatures were dropping and the fan was needed.
That's when I went searching for the solution somewhere in a sub menu. I'm sure it starts up at the lowest setting now. 🤔. I'll check if it is this weekend when I get to drive it.
The rest of the infotainment is hard work compared to the Hyundai ioniq I drive. Took about a week to change the clock to UK time 🤔😉
Previous gen system (2018 insignia) is ok. Reliability is pretty good. I can recall maybe two or three spontaneous reboots of the nav (and fair due it came back up fairly quick without forgetting the route) over nearly 3 years of driving.
It's certainly good enough that I CBA with android auto, googlemaps, waze or similar.
I've so far not had to worry about infotainment systems other than in hire cars - but as a general question (rather than specific to corsas) can you just take them out and stick an aftermarket radio in? or are they all now too integrated into the car's functionality to do that?
or are they all now too integrated into the car's functionality to do that?
Yes. In mine at least. The "Infotainment" screen controls music, phone, navigation, heating and aircon, all vehicle alerts and menus, tyre pressure gauge, reversing sensors, software updates for the car, etc. etc. There are no physical buttons for stuff like the heating etc. Without the touch screen you can't do anything. It's a pile of poo and I hate it. Especially as mine repeatedly fails and the manufacturer (Skoda) can't fix it. It's all part of the enshitification of everything we buy.
Thank the Lord for a decent phone mount and Waze.
The sustem in my renault is excellent. And android auto is great if its... Not in a vauxhaul.
Way nicer in a phone.
Just to clarify, the android auto is good, and it's wireless..... Although sometimes it decides not to connect, or only connect when I'm almost home, at which point it'll cut the radio I've been listening to for the last however long off and fire up YT music all of a sudden. But google maps is good, and BBC sounds, and Tomorrowland radio. The voice recognition on WhatsApp is a bit iffy, but that might be my Blackpool accent! 🤣
At least you haven't got the faff of pulling the choke out on a cold morning or winding down the windows on a hot day , lucky to have a radio 😁
The lack of physical buttons for heating and audio was a reason for picking a VX van rather than the VW/Ford option with the touch sliders.
Just resurrecting this to say I've finally cracked it!
Should future generations find this thread trying to find out how to turn off the tip of the bloody day..... It's in the settings in the e-coaching app, turn it off there. Likewise the navigation app, turn off the save location settings and you don't get the "do you want to navigate to number 26 down your street?" - no I bloody don't, I don't even live there! And I know where my street is!
Yesterday it was 11 screen presses just to change from Heart Dance to radio 4, tomorrow it might only be 9 👍🎉
