Get some decent painkillers and mix your fix (paracetemol and ibuprofen at the same time).
I had mine done on a Thursday. Friday, I drove (about 40 miles in total) and wandered, gingerly, around an architectural reclamation place.
I had massive black and blue knackers mind and had to be careful getting in and out of the car etc.
It was sore but not unbearable.
Make sure you take the opportunity to rely on your partner. Booze helps an awful lot.
I worked the next day. I've had worse plum pain from biking injuries, really wasn't a big deal.
Depends though what your job is. Are you a pro cyclist or a cowboy? That would not be ideal.
If you drive a desk and go to meetings then a handful of brufen, two pairs of tightish pants and MTFU.
okay, sounds do-able then. i (rather surprisingly for stw, i know) work in IT, 2nd/3rd line support so can avoid anything physically demanding with ease.
Hmmm, I was pleased to have three days off after mine.
2 pairs of pants is an absolute must! I drive a fair bit and was warned off that for a couple of days.
i can use the train instead of driving easily enough, so that should be fine.
Had mine on a Thursday evening, spent the Friday on the sofa with an ice pack. It wasn't too bad, but too much walking around without ice wasn't pleasant.
Bit more active on Saturday, still spells on the sofa with ice. Sunday onwards was more like normal but with background discomfort until nearly two weeks post op.
Just the other week, my right testicle swelled right up and got pretty tender. Congestive epidimitis. Pain only lasted 2-3 days, swelling somewhat longer and I now have a nice big granuloma on the back of it.
Normal varies from person to person. Some will be back to normal the next day, others won't and will have a couple of weeks of pain/discomfort. It isn't lack of mojo or macho, different people have different experiences.
Manning up when your body isn't ready for it can lead to massive swollen blue balls and other more serious complications.
If you've ever been on the wrong end of an impact to the nethers, you'll be familiar with that deep aching pain you get way down in your gut. For me I was generally fine straight after the op, but when walking every heel-strike was like a mild jolt of that pain. Kind of like someone flicking you on the back of the ol' nut sack with every step. Uncomfortable more than painful, but got worse through the day.
So, my main tips are:
Comfy shoes. Running shoes are ideal, something with a well-cushioned sole.
Eliminate as much walking and moving about as you can.
Tight-ish undies. If you normally wear old-man boxers then get some jockey/budgie-smuggler types for the post-op week, the boys will need all the support they can get.
And I'd take the train to work so you can max out on painkillers on the way home, you'll be feeling it most as the day wears on. Get a lift or treat yourself to a taxi back from the station to avoid having to walk.
Good luck!
haha, yeah, all good to know! my boss has said i could take time off if absolutely necessary (my colleague already has that entire week off and there's only 2 of us in our team) but i reckon i can just use it to have a cushy few days. got my running shoes and tighty whiteys all set to go...
All that malarkey on the sample is unnecessary - as I had it explained to me, they are checking for the absence of Little David Wilkies - not whether they are alive or not. If they find any they class you as non jaffa and are referred back.
xherbivorex - very similar role to yours when I had myself 'done' - just sat a bit carefully for a day, was driving the next and just took a bit of ibuprofen (maybe 4 tablets over a day) - really wasn't a big deal. Don't tell Mrs B that though, I milked it (arf) for weeks.

Aim is for nothing there. 1 in 200 vasectomies will fail early, which would give viable sperm in the semen. It also takes time to get rid of those that are already in there. If you haven't been getting jiggy enough, you won't have flushed them out and you'll still be capable of getting someone pregnant.
If you have some sperm, but not motile ones then you can get the all clear but risk is higher so they tend to wait longer and hope they disappear completely.
Anybody here combined the snip with the removal of an epididymal cyst? Whilst they've got the bonnet up they might as well fix that as well . . . perhaps?
I was done nearly 5 years ago. Unfortunately I got PVPS - about 10% (1 in 10) men get it.
The right side went fine, but the left had no anaesthetic, and the doc cut through a blood vessel as well, requiring stitching. Ended up off work for a month as it was that bad, and I had a ruddy hole that wouldn't heal up.
Pain kept persisting, so a year later had some repair work to lefty - an epididymectomy (they cut the epididymis off). Needless to say I was badly swollen.
Moved on another 6 months and I was feeling crap, could hardly pedal the bike. Full bloods done, and hey ho, low testosterone - looks like lefty was a bit mangled. Been on the Lance Armstrong juice for two years now, and I still get bad pains in the boys.
PVPS is quite common, so research it.
had mine done this morning, all went without a hitch and i was back home within 2 hours of arriving at the hospital. it's a tad uncomfortable now, and my knackers are pretty bloody swollen up, but i can handle that!
Just looking for some "how long till back on the bike" advice. Really wish I'd not read fossy's email though 😕
did you google scrotal abscess mrblobby (my advice is don't)?
Mate got one and basically had to lay on the sofa for 6 weeks with a hole in his sack to let the pus out...
mrblobby in contrast to some of the horror stories above, mine went without a hitch. I was in and out within about 30 minutes, with no pain at all- even though they provided some cocodamol, I didn't need any painkillers at all.
I could probably have ridden a bike the same day, it was only the advice to ensure the wound was healed to prevent the risk of infection that kept me off the bike. I think I took about 2 weeks off. No problems since.

Take a couple of weeks off the exercise, I was told.
That does assume that all's well.
Longer if you get an infection, painful granuloma or some other complication (they happen).
I was told 4 weeks in my consultation but was hoping the reality would be a few days 😕

Yup,it was nae bother.
I even rode back home (30 miles) on my motorbike after the OP.
But whatever you do,don't get up on a desk to open a window, then jump back down to the floor.
That would be a really, really stupid thing to do 😳 🙂
Well that wasn't too bad, though I suspect the anaesthetic has yet to properly wear off. The surgeon did unexpectedly ask if I wanted to "see the tubes", god no! Now just feels a bit like the aftermath of a kick in the balls.
Bag of frozen peas at the ready?
Oh yes!
All seems to have gone ok unlike the guy who went in after me and was experiencing a fair bit of post op seepage.
I had a farkin GP that was 'training' do me. What a mistake that was. Get those tight pants on for a few days and bag of peas to keep the swelling down. Mine ended up like large spuds.
GP's aren't surgeons !
Mine ended up like large spuds
Well 48hrs later and mine have been fine. Bit of a funny sensation initially but no pain, bruising or swelling. Incision looks to be healing nicely. I’ll probably still leave it a few days before a short tester of a ride though!
Holy Sunday morning thread content, Batman.
Coming up for 3 years on mine, I occasionally get unexplained ache in my right one. Generally last day or two then goes away. Don't regret getting in done.
Plums still fine here. I'm tempted to go for a ride tomorrow 🙂
