I bought my first house last year and after spending a pretty cold winter I've decided to get a log burner fitted. Two electric heaters just cost a lot to run and don't really warm the house up enough.
Does anyone have experience of Varde stoves? They look decent and seem a fairly reasonable price but there doesn't seem to much in the way of reviews about for them.
I'm in the process of getting some quotes at the moment for the installation (flue through the wall and up the outside job) so if anyone know of anyone they can recommend to get a quote from that would be appreciated too. I'm in the south west, on the coast pretty much on the Devon/Cornwall border.
They Look nice, I have a Westfire who are also a Danish brand and do a similar range (strangely even using similar names Uniq 1, Uniq 13). At the end of the day you can't go far wrong as they are fundamentally just a sealed box with a door, flue and some controls. The only stoves I wouldn't consider are the none branded ones from places like local builders Merch. Buying from a stove shop and it's usually just a case of what you like the look of and what is appropriate for the room. The only regret I have with mine is that in hindsight I should have bought a wood only burner, but bought a multi fuel (I had no intention of burning coal / anthracite).
Have a look on the What Stove website for reviews.
Nope, They look nice though. Curvy glass will be more expensive to replace if it breaks. With flat glass, you can just get it a piece of stove glass cut to size from wherever.
I'm going to carry on the theme of recommending what I've got, just cos.
DG Ivar 5KW. Nice big window, clean, modern design without being ultra-chic. Very easily controlled with one slider.
Easy to get going, but I might just have an awesome chimney. The air gets pulled in in a sheet along the bottom of the box, so little pile of kindling front centre and a big stack of logs on top. Light it, close the door with the air all the way open. Fires raging away in 3,4 mins, turn the slider down to half way a few minutes later when the fan starts turning. The window gets a wipe/rub with newspaper every 10 fires or so.
Coming up to 3rd it's winter, very happy indeed.
Neds awesome chimney, s****. Having one fitted Saturday can’t remember the name. It’s coming from a stove shop so assuming it will ne good at what it does.
I think the one i'm looking at has flat glass in the sides and front. There are two reviews of varde stoves on the what stove site, neither for the ones im looking at but both good reviews and I'd assume build quality would be consistent over the range of stoves.
The DG Ivar looks nice, another one to look at! I think I prefer the more contemporary designs, for this house anyway as its fairly modern.
