I've put a new stereo in my van and it won't hold memory. The wiring is all correct, I've tried the old reversing the yellow and red wire trick and checked it al over with a multimeter

Took me a bit of investigation but here's what's happening (I think):
My reversing camera power feed is wired into the switched 12v feed for various reasons, and I'm not going to wire it into the reverse light feed, so what's happening is that the camera keeps trying to run and ends up drawing current back from the stereo as they are both fed into the switched 12v

My first idea was just to put a diode into the switched stereo feed so the current can't flow backwards out the stereo but struggling to find one with the right spec and have come across this relay that I can get from Halfords a 2 minute walk away

https://www.halfords.com/tools/fuses-electricals-and-fixings/electricals/halfords-hef560-relay-12v-40a-4-pin-inc.-diode-184203.html

So I'm thinking of wiring the switched 12v for the stereo across 85 and 86 and then the camera across 87 and 30. That way there's a diode on the stereo feed but also a relay switching the camera off with the ignition, which will only switch with current flowing the right way due to the diode

Seems to make sense in my head but am I going to blow myself up and also waste 8 quid? I could be off with my diagnosis as well to be fair so a sanity check there would also be good!

EDIT: the agricultural option would be to just wire a manual switch on the camera but I'd end up forgetting to switch it off and would be back to the original problem!

I haven't read everything in detail but I don't see how a camera sharing either the switched or permanent stereo feed would cause the radio to lose memory. If there was a problem with current, it would pop the fuse. (You've checked the permanent feed is still live I guess?)

Just out of curiosity... What van is it? I had a similar issue with my father in laws' Sprinter recently. I popped a 10 quid jumper loom in and all sorted

And whats the issue with taking a feed from the reverse circuit? Can it not be added to the fuseboard with a piggy back holder?

Must be lack of KL30 (battery supply) for the memory problem. Can't see why the camera would affect anything at all. No need for a diode or relay and what you're thinking with the relay won't work anyway. 85 and 86 are a coil which is energised to close the contacts between 87 and 30.

It’s defo the camera, if I remove the camera wiring it works fine. It’s not going to pop the fuse drawing the tiny amount of amps it needs either

85 and 86 are a coil which is energised to close the contacts between 87 and 30.

which is exactly what I’m trying to achieve, perfect

Thanks, if it were Iveco or Fiat I could have helped you.

Ah thanks Spooky!

Just in the very unlikely case someone was to find this thread searching for the answer to this issue then the relay worked and it now holds memory fine
