The hound usually travels in the boot or in the back of the camper van. The back of the camper van is just a van at the moment and I need to travel from Glasgow to Kent with him riding shotgun 🙂
I thought I’d just jump on Amazon and find a dog seatbelt clip to put on his harness but tbh they all look a bit flakey. Are there any recommendations of ones that might actually keep him secure?
And I’m also after some decent quality heavy duty seat covers for the van (Citroen Relay). Not shiny nasty looking things but waterproof and mud proof.
Cheers!
Attach his lead to his harness, then tie the lead to the headrest, that's what we do.
And consider stuffing the foot well with something. Old blankets/pillows, dog bed, anything (you can put stuff in an old duvet cover to keep it clean). Just gives them a bit more space to lay down / turn around (while still tethered to the headrest / seat belt).
Turtle covers
Mrs Fiend sits on these in my van.
We use a bungee restraint that attaches her harness to the headrest something like this
Not sure on the harness, but I use these seat covers and highly recommend them.
Edit: just noticed the van bench thing, so not overly helpful really!
Rhino boot liners do seat covers for what you need, specific to each van, not generic ones.
When the dogs are in the camper, we use a short webbing loop that attaches to their harness and is threaded through the seatbelt
Lintran dog box. Safe and secure for pooch.
Check Fortis website for seat covers. Proper heavy duty stuff.
When mine rode shotgun I got a short sling and karabiner. Sling through harness and krab clipped to seatbelt. Gave her some freedom to move around and be comfy but the security of the inertial reel if something went wrong.
Cheers for the links. I’ve actually got a selection of slings and carabiners so will use that. I thought there was something special about dog seat belts, but I guess not.
The search for covers continues.

His bed will be on the floor, but knowing him he’ll wanting to look out so won’t stay on the floor.
We use the RAC travel harnesses (we clip them to a strong point in the back of the van, but they do have a loop for a seatbelt, too):

After trying various 'fitted' seat covers in our Relay, we now use the neoprene 'throw over' type covers and they work very well - completely mud and wet arse proof, but easily removed if you don't need them (roll up small for storage)
Something like this (but we didn't pay that much for them):

Is the seat cover just for 'his' seat? We use a seat protector something like this:
With an old doormat (or cut up piece of doormat) on the seat bit as the protector itself is quite slippery and he struggles to grip around corners.
His bed will be on the floor, but knowing him he’ll wanting to look out so won’t stay on the floor.
Yeah, sorry - I meant to bring it upto the same height as the seat. I've got a nervous traveler who stares at the foot well as if it's a great abyss. If I fill it up she chills a bit... and can turn around without losing a foot if I brake at the same time.
My other mutt doesn't give a monkeys - so just depends on their attitude.
