This is a bit weird, we have 2 vans, a Transit 2013 and a Trafic 2007 as a camper conversion. Occasionally when they are parked on our drive neither of the remotes will work on either of the vans, this has never happened anywhere else. So is there any piece of electrical equipment that can cause this?

My guess is that the system is in the 2.4ghz band. That band is essentially a small band of unregulated spectrum which can be used without a licence. The result is it gets used for an awful lot of different devices these days and interference is common. Older and cheaper devices tend to be more prone to this.
I have a 2006 bmw and used to work with radio masts. Parking near 2 4ghz dipoles on towers would stop the remote from working.
Also had issues with doorbells at my but with the doorbell being activated by aneighbours key fob.
Cheers I'll have to ask the neighbours to see if they've installed any new electronics.

Pirate radio maybe - as in a Radio Ham - they use that same 2.4ghz band and can have quite powerful transmitters. A pal of my dads had a set up in his spare room that that had enough oomph to broadcast out of the speakers on neighbour's stereos even when we're switched on. So it may be a source of interference thats more than a few doors away.
