Driving home tonight, the "Change Engine Oil!" warning message lit up on my van. Ford Connect with the 1.5 TDCi euro 6 engine. Having read about Wrightyson's Custom recently, I was a bit concerned as it's 5,500 miles since the last service so I rang up the main steelers I bought it from, (also serviced it as still in warrantee) and got it booked in for inspection.

Now I've looked back at the service manual, I see it's just about 19,000 miles since the previous service, on a fixed interval of 20,000. So, what's the betting the bleeding mechanics forgot to reset it, it's triggered on mileage and now I've got to bugger about on Friday getting this sorted. Annoyed.

I think Iveco turned off my service reminder! It was on a 5 year servicing plan and now I've missed the last free service 🙁

Update, just in case anyone searches in future.

Wasn't the mechanics fault, (feel bad for slating them now) it's stupid firmware implementation. The warning was triggered by approaching 20k miles since it was last reset, and until it appears again THERE IS NO WAY TO RESET IT! How bloody idiotic is that?!

Seems to be a few ways to do it manually if you do an internet search

Yes, ignition on, hold down the accelerator and brake for 20 seconds, but it won't do it until 20k miles is nearly up.

I've just realised what service indicator this will have, and it's a nightmare.

You can reset it early, however you've got no way of knowing whether it's worked. The first one I ever done took three attempts, and the indicator was on, so I knew when it finally reset. I'm sure it's the brainchild of some vindictive software engineer, who wanted to ensure techs took longer to reset the service indicator that it takes to service the vehicle.

Thankfully, I normally avoid vehicles that small, unless there's something wrong with it that needs more than a couple braincells to fix.
