Neat 20mm ish hole was drilled in the side of the van. Does this now mean that a simple maneuver with a screwdriver will open the door?
Nothing on my home camera so this has happened in Westfields car park, I always park near the exit as it is quicker for walking to the tube station. Nowt for a tool thief inside. A front 26" front wheel with seized bearings, my firestarter Chinese jet wash and Bosch drill box with a battery only.
Did they open it, have a look and then leave it?
Got a photo? What van is it?
I'm going with yes, unfortunately!
At least they drilled a nice hole rather than ripping the door off, given the number of vans sporting stainless plates on the side I guess that's the solution to covering the holes/ preventing it happening as quickly.
In the mean time you could tie the door shut from the inside?
Its a Vauxhall Vivaro 19 plate.

If it's like mine then there is a cable that activates the sliding door mechanism...maybe about where the hole is? If you take the door card off you should see it. Maybe disconnect it for a bit, if you can, until you get it fixed? Will mean you can't open the sliding door for a bit though.
Is there a smaller, neater hole about 9mm in diameter in the other door?
If not I think that I'd leave it for a few weeks with a "No Pies Are Left In This Van Overnight" or similar label next to the hole so that they don't bother you again. Disconnect the internals
Station car park should have CCTV, report it to British Transport Police

Can't be just me who things that doesn't look like a drill hole? Looks like something has exited from inside the van, based on the ragged edges being ripped towards the outside of the van...
Had exactly this on a works van last week, a Volkswagen, except the hole was a lot worse. I think it looks like that as it's done with a screw driver prising the metal outwards. Clearly knew what they were looking for in terms of a release mechanism. Made a mess of the doors as well, luckily the driver had deadlocked the doors and we think they may have been scared off. Ultimately you can't secure a van they want to get in, we've had doors peeled off, holes cut in the side, windows smashed etc.

quite possibly. Your van or works? Deadlocks are a cheap investment that would prevent this kind of thing.
looks like its been punched through with a screwdriver , and then something like a tin opener used on it.

Did you drive it down to the Titanic?
Several people I work with have had their vans targeted this way. The hole is to get to the door mechanism to unlock then open sliding door. Several of the people have had vans emptied in the 10 minutes they were in a shop..
just had internal and external drill plates along with deadlocks fitted to my transit custom. It wasn’t cheap, around £1000 for side and rear doors plus drivers door lock. Depends how valuable what’s inside is though!
I’ve seen some videos of people breaking in by drilling a hole and if you know what you are doing it takes maybe 20 seconds. I don’t think any van is safe. It’s apparently very easy to find videos of how to break into a van within weeks of a van van being released for sale
i think the exit hole get its rough look from look is from the the blue wrap.

Its a works van, has tools and cables inside during the day occasionally.I have it for moving bikes more than work stuff.
I was meant to have a nice car 🤔
Ahh, that makes more sense now. You can see the clean drilled hole under the wrap.
Yes, I've had similar on my '17 traffic rear door. The alarm went off and scared them away. Your van is now quite vulnerable, sadly.
Sussex Installations were excellent....New plate and internals shielded. Highly recommended. Made it a day out and rode up to Beachy Head.,
Next van will have a proximity alarm fitted by them too.
It's been several years but I was Design Engineer at Locks4Vans. As above, common issue with Vivaro's and the internal and external shields will make the van far more secure.
Thanks for all the posts.
Ratchet strapped the side door and will look at shields tomorrow.

Westfield, Stratford?
Thought about fitting Thule lock on the sliding and rear doors. Then I saw a video of a guy knocking one apart.... Video was about 5 seconds long.

White City/Shepards Bush - I now have a high-security gaffa tape over-the-hole solution installed 🙂
Met with a friend over the weekend and he has a huge rough hole in the same place This is a new style Combo. Work are in no hurry to repair as so many are now sporting air holes.
