Due to the stoned, camo wearing ****er riding the unregistered/uninsured Un-MOT motocross bike up the road at 300mph that ended up in the side of my van and the subsequent £25k compo claim my insurer have earmarked, my van insurance has gone mental. Adrian flux are £1600+, and Brentacre who it was with wont insure if theres a claim in the last year. Cheapest so far is AA at £1k.
This is for SDP, off street parking, 8k miles, £2k value of van, excess as much as possible, bog standard Transit LWB, im 44.
Weed smoking Evil Knievel wanna-be got £300 fine & 5 points. I might actually not bother insuring it....
Apart from comparison sites has anyone else dealt with a sensible priced van insurer?
Er loads? When in the UK I found most via comparison sites, van insurance is fairly common. No need for specialists really.
Nfu
I use LV for my 08 Scudo, I find em very reasonable, worth a pop
I use Commercial Vehicles Direct (broker) for my T5, even though it's not actually used for commercial purposes.

Part of Brightside - they wanted £2100 !!! Last year was £650 including business use and wife as named driver.
Thanks anyway though.
Waiting for NFU to contact me back - I've been with them previously for the van.
A Plan we're pretty good for my insurance.
nfu ok for banjo country. i've been with direct line for 6 years. business + sd&p on a pug expert for less than my leon used to cost.
Direct Line were best price for me. Aviva were close.
I used NFU for a few years until Flux worked out cheaper.
My Spinter and Transporter are both on with Aegis, four named drivers on each, about £400 to £500, their on a 15 plate and a 61. Insurance is now more about the risk you pose to others, which doesn't seem to have changed, not right that you should be penalised for living near a scumbag.
I deal with lots of the insurers (I work for a repairer) - the only two companies who have been a real pain for our customers have been NFU and Saga - I would advise not using either.
When I was looking at van insurance recently, Admiral appeared to be good value (and are always good to deal with in the case of a claim).
Hastings Direct gave me the best quote for my van
So your current insurer won't even quote for renewal due to the claim?!
Madness...Unless there are additional claims you haven't mentioned?
Might be worth doing a little research to see if they are treating you fairly, is there an insurance ombudsman?
Churchill didnt bat an eyelid when I swapped my car for a van, insurance went down in fact. Might be worth a try

Surely if he has been prosecuted for a road traffic offence in relation to the incident then it must be being judged as a non-fault accident with regards to any claims? Or where the points / dine for the no insurance/no tax/no MOT?
It can be non-fault but you are still statistically more likely to have another claim.
Whether it's down to wrong place wrong time, being in a high crime area, or just having local scallys in the area racing bikes about with no insurance, you are a higher risk to insure.
...Surely if he has been prosecuted for a road traffic offence in relation to the incident then it must be being judged as a non-fault accident with regards to any claims?...
I understand that most insurers will count it as a fault claim if they have paid out and not managed to reclaim the full cost of the claim from the third party.
Mine is with Aviva on a normal car policy, with a few mods too. I gave up on the specialists after a few years.
and the subsequent £25k compo claim my insurer have earmarked
I don't get this bit, who's getting the compo from your insurers?
The motorbike rider no doubt.
Remember similar thing happening to a mate years ago, he pulled into the path of a pissed up non insured motorcyclist who was speeding with no lights on . Rider lost his leg in the accident and somehow managed to get a big payout. Can't remember the full details , but was astounded at the time
The motorbike rider no doubt.
This.
BikeLife ****er, case law he'll get a payout even though he was attributing to the collision.
Only need the van for our house renovation but might sell it and get a Berlingo/Kangoo multispace shed - £1k to insure a £2k van is boiling my piss right now.
I'm with Hastings direct for my van 07 vivaro. 290 fully comp but I've not got a big payout on my insurance history
decision made - the vans going and Im buying a cheap McMoonter style LR Discovery for tip runs/house bashing. I know my way round Lr stuff - Fords TDCI scares me. Any big stuff and I'll hire a trailer/van
I assume you mean "contributing"? Does that mean that you were found to be at fault too?BikeLife ****, case law he'll get a payout even though he was attributing to the collision.
i would not touch adrian flux full stop. i was with them for years but it was'nt until i needed them after an accident that i found out how utterly bad they were. very definitely avoid.
Many thanks for the NFU recommendation.
Just got your company van insurance down from £2500 to £750!
Nice one Jambo.
I use Staveley Head for motorhome, £220 not bad for second vehicle with no NCD.
Will get quote for the Berlingo when it's due.
Aviva for me. £250 cheaper than A plan for the same level of cover.
