For racing and ridding this year I will be using my modified van for sleeping in.

I have used a double air bed in the back before with small amount of success however it made getting in and out of bed very hard! I am after something a bit more substantial than the Alpkit style layer of air roll mats.

I am not so keen to go the whole hog of a rock and roll bed as its going to use up too much room.

So can anybody recommend some kind of mattress that can be folder up and easily stored but is comfortable, Preferable a double or a little smaller?

I use an ikea fold up mattress. It's designed to go on a futon but its 100mm foam not one of those giant pillow things. folds into thirds for storage or to act as a seat. When flat it's a small double. I think argos sell something similar.

looks a bit like this:

Fishing camp bed? Admittedly not double but foldable and can leave it up if you wanna get in and out of the side loading door

I had a fold up camp bed in mine, bike still fitted along side and was very comfy with a down sleeping bag

Single person only but was fine for the 3-4 months I lived in it on a campsite during the week while working away. left it parked up and cycled into work 😀

By precut foam in whatever size you like, go for 4" Reflex stuff. Super comfy.

two Alpkit dozers (v v fat) with some bungee cord tied and twisted in a figure of eight to hold them together and then zip together a double set Vango Wilderness sleeping bag.

Snuggly.
