I have been offered a place in a chalet in Val Thorens during the first week of April and was wondering if anybody had been there at that time of year before? Im keen to go but not if the snow is likely to be fading fast.

Its the highest resort in Europe so your chances are fair. Was there at Feb half term so can't really comment on April. Have a look on ski club of GB site for resort info or snowheads forum
Been in April before and you will be fine, we had a fresh dump of snow when we arrived too!
it's a great resort! Really good slopes.IIRC I had a three valleys lift pass.
Went in early april 2 years ago and could ski the whole of the 3 valleys. Weather was a bit funny, snow on the first 2 nights 2 days of sun and then mist and rain for the next few days. Overall the conditions were fine but I guess it will be unpredictable in April. Val Thorens should always be fine if you are ok with skiing in a smallish area
