I've got a vaillant ecotec pro 28k boiler, 6 years old now. Only had 2 years warranty from new and since then it's broken down maybe 3 times. Current fault F.75. The last two times the diverter valve has broken, spewing water out and making it totally unusable until it gets repaired, and the lrescurseor to that was also a F.75 fault code. My plumber (an old mate) is probably the most unreliable person I know and I'm not using him again (takes weeks to come round/doesn't turn up etc), but sourcing a reliable plumber to come round during a global pandemic is not ideal.

So, why does my boiler keep breaking down when it's so relatively new, I was under the impression vaillant were a decent brand!

Can anyone recommend a reliable plumber in Bristol?

I've topped up the boiler again and it's working now, but clearly there must be a leak in the system, although I'm not seeing water anywhere at the moment.l, but this happened last time then water started pissing out of it.

Are you me? F75 fault on same boiler as we speak. Mine is a sensor failure which means it thinks the pressure is too low, so you put more in till it bursts (purges). I've had to let water out of the top radiator daily, to allow me to put more in to trick the sensor to kickstart. Don't believe the digital pressure reading, go with the analogue one. Heating engineer is pot luck. If our chap fixes ours on Monday i will recommend them!

@csb our pressure what's been dropping by the looks of it. So must be a leak somewhere. This happened last time tho right before the diverter valved failed. Can't see any water dripping this time tho.

@markoulini thank you.

I've not used it myself but I have seen people recommend Vaillant's own fixed price repair service. It's £285 for which they'll replace pretty much anything unless it's totally shot.

Price seems pretty fair - anything but the simplest repair is going to end up in that ball park and at least you get an expert who presumably turns up with a van full of the correct spares.

Are you sure the pressure is dropping though? If the sensor is buggered it massively underreads.

Vaillant have their own engineers. Why not try them? I think they offer fixed price repairs with a guarantee.

My boiler was having that fault code, my heating engineer fitted a new pressure sensor which fixed it relatively cheaply. Until then I got round it by adding a bit more water and pressing all the buttons. The analogue pressure gauge is not very accurate on mine.
A few weeks later we got a F61 fault and had to have the PCB changed.

We had the same- our installer recommended a magnetic filter because the sensor clogs so easily. Lasted about 2 years before it ‘F75d’ in his words, and it was the sensor. Replacement lasted another 2yrs before we moved.

They also skanked us out of the 7yr warranty they were advertising at the time, although I can’t quite remember how. Clearly we’d never buy another Vaillant!

Thanks for all the replies. I'll look into the vaillant repairs thing. Sounds like a good idea.

I'm reasonably sure it is losing pressure. Previously I had to keep topping up because there was a leak that I hadnt noticed. Also the analogue pressure dial was showing it was low too.

We already have a magnetic fernox filter thing. But it could be possibly clogging up, not sure it was topped up after the last diverter valve was replaced.

If there are no visible traces of leaks inside, check the pressure relief pipe outside when the boiler is on and up to temperature. Should be a short copper pipe poking through the external wall where the boiler is mounted. If that's leaking it's likely your expansion vessel.

Pressure sensor is a common problem on that boiler. Used to sell endless amounts of them to the local council. It's only about £20 and only held on by a small clip so potentially doable yourself.

+1 on the vaillant own service. I think my mum got the annual one and paid significantly less than the cost of repair, and had a whole further year of cover

Pressure sensor can be an intermittent issue but I've found that when they go the boiler generally will not fire up at all and give u the F75 error code. The other main F75 is the pump which is also quite common on these boilers.
