The Octavia has started to throw up a couple of warnings recently so I’d like to get my hands on a reliable OBD reader to try and find out what’s going on with the car. Hopefully I can then fix anything simple that comes up or just do a bit of reading before thinking about trips to the garage.

So far I’ve been looking at the Carista OBD2 and the OBDeleven as potential options but it would be good to get some feedback on these, or other recommendations before taking the plunge.

VCDS / VAGCOM is the only thing really worth having for VAG cars.

If you are anywhere near Bournemouth you could use mine if thats any help.

I have Carista for my Audi RS5. Reads/deleted codes, does a more in depth ECU scan, unlocks hidden features in the car etc. No complaints

I bought the relatively basic OBD tool from Amazon years ago when I had a mk2 Octavia. Seemed to read and clear things no problem but couldn't actively change anything.

Now have an OBDeleven that is used with an old android phone (which needs a internet connection for the software to work).

Has helped with the wifes 2016 Fabia although it's clearly designed for people who don't mind paying for easy inputting of codes into the car. You can just input codes directly as you would with VAGcom, but it isn't quite as intuitive.

Still, for £90 with the license it is worth the hassle over much more expensive VAGcom.

Vcds lite as a free download and a cheap blue kkl USB to obd cable off eBay. Won't give the depth of interrogation for some stuff but its a cheap way to start.

If you’re near Horsham, I’ve got a VCDS reader...

Ta for that, I think it sounds like they can/should hopefully all cover what I need for now.

I’ll be giving the Carista a go to start with as it’s only £16 on Amazon and should arrive to try out on Monday.

You'll need to subscribe when you download the app to use it properly. Can't remember how much, but not v.expensive.

I'll get some screenshots of what it can do in my Audi later
