Anyone use the mentioned engine and how do you find it?
Contemplating if we were to get a newish (1 year old) Octavia if It would be worth going with or if it would be better trying to get the 1.6 tdi (bit put off VW diesels having had one) or 1.4 tsi.
Needess to say it’s a fairly big car and a small but seemingly not massively underpowered engine and ideally we would like to keep the car a good while.
I guess it’s hard to say with them being pretty new engines but wondered how they would fair once the mileage grew on them.
A small VAG is always good.
...........Took me a while.
Got an octy with the 2 ltr diesel. I was looking for a 1.4tsi turbo job but they were as rare as hen's teeth. Are there more of the 1ltr jobs around?

Only if you have nothing large to put in it.
There’s a few facelift just over a year old 1 litres at the price I’m looking at.
And a few pre facelift 2 year old 1.6 tdis.
1.4s are approx 1.5k more.
Not sure if its the same technology but we have now put 3k miles on our 1.4 TSi 150hp TIguan.
I have to say I cant fault it & we even towed the caravan around Scotland with it.!!!
The Tiguan is quite heavy, (1600kg on the works weighbrdge).
I think the Octavia is quite light, around 1200kg, so the 115hp should be perfectly fine.
They drop into two cylinder mode once cruising, coasting etc.
A lot of folk at work thought I was bonkers buying a 1.4 to tow a caravan but it honestly pulls like the 2.0 lumps of old. Solo it pulls really well. We bought petrol because its the Wife's daily car & her mileage is all stop-start as a Community Nurse.
Biggish car able to accommodate people and luggage paired with a small capacity engine that will be working harder than a bigger engine...
I know nothing about the engine itself, it may well be an excellent power unit in one car and a disaster in another.
Ill trot out my usual adage, that usually gets flamed on here: You can't beat cubes. Same as it ever was 😃
I had test drive in a seat ateca last year and figured I was driving the 1.4 150bhp version. I was surprised to learn it was the 1.0 115bhp !!
It had plenty low end poke. Cruised at 70 no issue. Not sure on longevity of tiny engine though ? Not an issue if your a serial car swapper
The 1.0 tsi also powers the Up Gti
I've been running the Karoq 1.0 TSI for a few months. It's a fantastic engine. Better than the 1.2 before it. And an excellent mid range.
Runs out of steam at the top of the rev range as you might expect.
Great on the motorway. All rather suprising.
Sounds nice too.
I'm a fan.

I dont move many sofas 🙂
Sounds promising.
Mrs bought a new polo recently with this engine, she loves it. Have only driven a few times but it does go great, plenty of oomph and much better than previous 1.2 one she had.
Wife has this engine in her Q2. Bought new a year ago and now about 8k miles on it. Has used a litre of oil and returns low 40’s on mpg, all slow, short journeys with kids, school, shops etc. Lots of poke even when all 4 of us in it, very flexible, can’t fault it so far.
