You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I’ve been on Wahoo Roam v1 for a Few years and have appreciated it massively but the recent update prevented the loading of routes while out on the fly while riding as well as various other problems.
Thinking of switching back to Garmin. Can you load routes from Komoot or Strava while mid ride these days? In the past you could but only if you stopped the current recorded activity. Unless I was an idiot and never learned to use it properly.
Thanks for any advice!
I have no knowledge of the wahoo series. But I was recently faced with having to upgrade my 1030 because it drowned.
In the end I went for the all singing all dancing 1040 solar and I couldn’t be happier! - the device is significantly faster to use. Route calculation on the fly when you go off course is much better. Say nothing about the metal tabs on the back so you don’t have to glue on an aftermarket replacement when they break after a few years and the battery life is just incredible - <1% battery loss per hour with all the connectivity enabled.
The thing that made me get the 1040 was my understanding is whilst they previously added new features to the xx20 and xx30 series for a long time they will no-longer be doing that as the xx40 series are a major rewrite on the software front so hopefully I’ll keep getting updates for a long time.
So the actual question. No you can’t use connect iq apps (Strava/komoot) whilst an activity is in progress. You also need connectivity to the cloud to send any routes to the device - even if you have the gpx on your phone. If you are really keen you can work around the “no connect iq apps” issue, export from komoot import to garmin connect and the routes will sync even during a ride.
I’d assume the 840 will be along soon if you don’t need the battery life/screen real estate? Or my understanding is the hammerhead is pretty nice if you want a big phone like screen
Hth
I tried moving from a V1 Roam to an 830 and was straight back after a few rides, unless the 1000 series is way more advanced, i just can't see me going back to Garmin with the interface differences.
The new V2 Roam looks even nicer, but pricey.
Yeah. Link Komoot to Connect and just sync your phone with your Edge. It's so seamless it's like magic.
Thanks for contributions. I think I will stick with my V1 Roam for the time being and hope they fix with an update.
