Ok. Are the EU the ultimate evil and obviously NOT an entity we wish to emulate in any way, shape or form?.... Surely us plucky Brits have nothing to learn from them, look at how amazingly well we are killing our citizens without any help from the meddling EU!

... Or are they highly regarded allies in this time of crisis helping us give a good kicking to those nasty coal mining/ flying picketing/ communist loving/enemies of the people?

Ie, teachers?

I honestly don't know how the flying *&@£ they get away with this just time after time after time.

Surely even some percentage of their most loyal readers will twitch a bit at the headline??

Comparing with all those other EU states that have handled the pandemic better than us doesn't make any sense either. But I'm sure that doesn't worry anyone that reads the Mail.

"Man who didn't jump into a barrel of shit says he doesn't smell of shit. We therefore don't need to have a shower after we climb out"

By the time the reader has got to "militant teaching unions" the bit about the EU has already been forgotten and all that matters is "teachers are bad."

My wife will get it from her old man next time she speaks to him.

Basically, as it stands, Labour are back and the Tory’s have a Proper opposition again. It’s fair to say that this is not going well for Joris, who’s been torn a new one by Keir Starmer at PMQs for the last 2 weeks

On top of this, the public is feeling all warm and fuzzy towards public sector workers for, you know... putting their own lives at risk for the good of the country. Very un-Tory behaviour.

So they need to make some public sector workers the enemy again, and also try to portray the Labour Party as mad loony lefties backing them up with ‘militant’ trade unions

Expect a lot more of this shit as Johnson’s stock nose-dives as he hides and then makes his floundering, once-weekly car crash appearances

Teachers are the new miners.

Once it was the miners who could stop the economy. Not any more. That was the 60s / 70s. Wife stayed home, hubby went to work. Leccy had to be dug out of he ground manually.

Now that has all changed. In the vast majority of households both parents now work. No childcare, no productivity.

Teachers are easily the most powerful unionized workforce now. You could argue that NHS workers might be, but they have more of a moral imperative not to strike.

Powerful unionized workforce = naturally enemy of the Tories.

Yes, sums up the position nicely, and the argument between a group of cycling friends on FB over the weekend. When our death and infection rates are down to the level of those 22 EU countries, our schools will be just as safe as theirs

Not wanting to expose your members to a potentially fatal disease is "militant" then?

Which 5 EU countries aren't opening schools - let me guess that would be the 5 with a similar infection rate to the UK

God I hate the Daily Mail

30,000+ dead and it nearly killed our prime minster but now it’s all ok? It’s all terribly confusing.

The damage the DM has done this to country along with the Murdoch press warrants a full public enquiry. Austerity, Brexit, Racism, scapegoating of migrants and three successive Tory governments. My dad gets the Daily Mail to 'see what the enemy are upto' - the vilification of Corbyn used to span 15 double spreads. I'd never seen anything like it in my life. People highlight alleged Russian influence in our democracy but are only too happy to let the Barclay Brothers, Murdoch and "Count" Rothermere/Darcey to influence elections at will so that they favour the policies that entrench wealth at the expensive of the average person.

That's an interesting viewpoint. I'd not thought of that.

Daily Mail might be the best example the UK has of an attempt to keep people in the UK dumb. The equivalent of Fox News. Bombard people with non-news such as someone from Love Island taking yet another selfie in their pants or Gordon Ramsay pissing off neighbours while the actual news gets distorted with their owners opinion and political slant rather than fact.

Sprinkle in a load of racism and xenophobia, preferably how all muslims are the same and Europe are scum and everyone will lose their jobs to immigrants and bob's your mothers brother, it's not worth wiping your arse with.....although if you look at it online then probably not best to do that with your ipad

And they give airtime to Piers Morgan, which is all you need to know

When will they learn indeed

rather than give their 'Hurrah' headline as Exhibit A, how about the production of munitions in 1915.....

    Daily Mail attacks Kitchener

A sensational version of the story was printed in the popular Daily Mail on 21 May, blaming Kitchener, under the headline "The Shells Scandal: Lord Kitchener’s Tragic Blunder". Lloyd George had to warn Northcliffe that the campaign was counterproductive and creating sympathy for Kitchener.

I'm not quite getting those leaps up there. Why would 18 healthcare workers need to quarantine?

Quite. You'd only end up smearing it all over your hitherto shiny clean bum cheeks.

Yup - only kids in schools at the moment are either vulnerable or key worker kids.

Mrs Dubs school has one kid going in, which means two or three teachers to look after that kid during the day (need a first aider and a senior leadership team member on site at all times there are kids on site too).

It's been that way for years. The red tops are just as bad. The Heil simply pretends to be a quality newspaper by printing the title bit in a fancy Germanic typeface and avoiding the use of a big block of primary colour. Thus people who like to think they are clever, instead of backwards racist morons, can continue the pretense.

As a Kiwi colleague said to me a while ago, "there is a big problem with the media in this country".

TBH, I think you’re going to find pretty much every country has some meeja outlet that’s like the Daily Heil/Scum, or Fox News, not just us or ‘Merca.

Slight derail but my elderly neighbour asked me to buy him a Dail Mail.... So he didn't have to go out.

I stood and wrestled with my conscience for perhaps too long.

I'm ashamed to say I got on my bike and got him a copy..... I felt filthy and hid it in a Guardian like I was 16 and buying Fiesta......

Ugh yeah I’ve bought it for my F-I-L and felt dirty for weeks afterwards.

He often buys me a paper so I couldn’t really say no...

I have to buy a copy for my elderly mum now I've made them lock down. It's not a pleasant experience but...
Plenty of pages for cleaning glass with.

Those bloody unions are at it again, when will this madness end!?!?

The leader of one of these dissident terrorist groups has been caught on video saying:

Mary Bousted.

the NEU's joint general secretary, was even shown accusing children of being 'mucky', spreading germs and 'wiping their snot on your trousers or on your dress.

No way, no way that any kid EVER has picked their nose or got mucky. Particularly not the prodigal children of loyal, patriotic Daily Mail readers!

Remain calm people, this madness will end.

They used the word “snot”…? Hang ‘em all!

How many teachers will choose to leave the profession in the next school year?

Kelvin - a very good point, my daughters school is looking at 2 leaving her dept this summer who wont be replaced and I know she is leaving next year without fail.

I guess we will have to bring in the skilled teachers from overseas that PP keeps bumping her gums about.

Yes, there is gutter press everywhere.

His more complete explanation involved pointing out there being "much more" of a problem here.

It's debatable if we'd have had a war in Iraq without the papers doing all of Tony Blair's heavy lifting around the ridiculous 45-minute claim.

The media did the bulk of that work, not the Government. They sowed the seeds, the media did all its scaremongering, misinformation and opinion and suddenly everyone backs the Government for a good old war.

We've thankfully not got a TV equivalent of Fox News - Sky is actually one of better sources from a neutrality perspective.

The papers are in a completely different league though, I'm sure we score really low on press neutrality compared to other "western democracies"

And now we also have the bot farms on twitter and facebook.

These are in a whole new league of unaccountability.
