It's not very good but, if you alter the "Sort by" to date, it is halfway possible to find what you're looking for.

I know! See up there, under your thread title.. you have Home > Forum > Chat Forum... well, click the Forum one so you're on the overview page.

Search from there. Scroll down past all the annoying advert bollocks and you'll see some decent results.

Don't ask me why it doesn't work within each forum. Probably the same reason copy & pasting results in a load of crappy codes.

As DezB says, use the Search box at the top of the list of posts, not the magnifier in the header bar. Or use Google, with site: https://singletrackmag.com followed by your search terms.

Well mastering the forum search is one of the initiation tasks to become a true stwer always has been...

oddly I can find threads but once they get past s certain age they are no longer complete. So I can see the final few pages or comments but not the op... Tiz weird

I just searched for "Margate" because I really wanted to learn more about Pete Doherty eating a big fry up just round the corner from me, but it returns zero results.

Yep Drac it must be boring after the number of threads asking exactly the same questions over and over again, what are we in the last 10 days? 3 about the notifications so far? Once a fortnight about posing pics from flickr etc.

Given up replying with useful advice, why should I waste my time helping people as nobody seems to be bothered about making it easy for users to use the forum

It doesn't like U-Block Origin. The only way I can get it to work while U-Block Origin is installed is to:

1) make sure enable blocking is on within u-block-origin

2) do the search

3) disable blocking within u-block-origin

4) refresh the page using the refresh button within u-block-origin

I've resorted to Google.  Yesterday I was looking for a cordless vacuum cleaner and recalled a discussion.

I entered "Singletrack vacuum" and got the result I wanted.

If we assume that number of page impressions is a measure of advertising potential revenue then there is probably real value in making some actions require multiple clicks/impressions rather than simplify/reduce.

An example is the removal of the ability to identify the last poster in a thread by hovering over the last post number. Or it could just be that the Wordpress functionality isn’t as easy to develop with.

user experience vs value generation is an interesting area.

Lets put it in perspective, the search function being a bit useless/difficult to use should be pretty low down on most people's list of things to worry about.  However, I know I'd be much more accepting of site issues in general if there was some admission that they don't work well, but there is nothing they can do about it (whether that be for technical, or financial reasons).

Limited resources Angledust has been mentioned in the past, they are working on other parts in the background. When that’s completed plan is to tackle the forum. The search engine quite clearly says BETA at the top which is why it’s a bit shit.

The site is a shit fest of basic user functions that half work, a bodge of the highest calibre. It's not going to get any better, get used to it.

PS can we have your money..love STW

Slightly related to where this thread has gone - I just had a genuine LOL moment when visiting my profile on here... I noticed the "notifications" link (rather thean the unappealing red blob up there ^^ ) and clicked on it. So it says ""Userblah replied to you on the Bike forum" and at the end "Read". Cool, I thought I can see (reeead) what someone replied to a thread I was in! I clicked on Read. I laughed. Why are they doing adding such cack when they could be fixing the broken stuff? It is pretty funny really.

(Ooh look, I found some code on the web. Stick it in lets see what it does! ??)

if people would only search before posting a 'how to' topic there wouldn't be all the need to the relentless duplication...

That is much preferable, to 'everything is working perfectly, it must be user error' (unless it really is mass user error) :-).

When it comes to computer stuff and usage of, then for me the easier it is to use the better it is as I'm clueless these these blinking things.

I have to say a lot of what has changed isn't easier to use, but understand the budget dictates the time factor so will patiently wait and hope that it is.

And thanks DezB for the tip yesterday.
