Bear with me on this ...
Daughter (12y.o.) has been given an iphone by her uncle, and after well over an hour at the 'genius' bar this morning we thought we'd set it up: I've set up an icloud account, logged into her phone, set up family sharing and set her up an account, I logged out and she logged in with her account. All good we thought, but she now can't download any apps.
I think it might be because I ticked the option for it to ask me every time she made a purchase which I thought she wouldn't do as all the apps she wants are free ones. And I assumed it might do something sensible like ask me by email, or give me a weblink to check and approve, but it seems not.
So now I'm stumped! Anyone else managed to work this out and find a solution?

As I understand it even free apps are counted as being “purchased”. Also permission is done via custom message/alert so you need an Apple device phone/ipad/mac - that’s my understanding ( we stopped using family sharing as it was a pita)

If your daughter is only using free stuff she can have her own account - no sharing approval needed

I believe Jamba is right. You don’t really need the permission setting turned on if you don’t associate a payment method with her account (and you trust her not to do anything too dodgy with free apps - e.g. snapchat is free).

If you log back in to your account you should be able to change the setting on the child account.

Jambas right, don't forget a lot of Apps have in purchase options thereby needing verification from "parental" source.. also some are rated over 18..

Call Apple, explain the situ..

Thanks all. I'll try calling Apple and see if they have a solution, otherwise I'll remove the 'ask before buying' requirement.

Should have stuck to android ...

I get notifications on my Mac too, so can manage via that if you don't have an iPhone...assuming you have a Mac?

You can also enter your details on her phone. Should give you that option when she buys or gets the app. Where she requests permission.
