Yesterday evening I had a headache, tried paracetamol as I had no nurofen etc, though paracetamol are rubbish anyway. Half hour later after searching the house top to bottom all I could find was some tramadol from when the wife had come out of hospital. Ended up taking 100mg which got rid of the headache but I have spent the last 24 hrs in a complete drunken/dizzy/vacant stupor. I'm still kind of out of it now.
Anyone else use these and what sort of things were they prescribed for?
I think I may have had a slightly higher dose than I should have...
I am on Tramodol 50mg slow release twice a day for my arthritis, nothing else touches it for the pain relief, they're also used post op for pain relief IIRC
bloody good shit they are too
opium based, hence the side effects of being a complete space cadet
Prescribed for my low back pain. 100mg and a nice bottle of red makes for a great night in.
Tonight I be suffering from man flu. I self-prescribed a bottle of Lagavulin. TBH, I'm not all that bothered about a cure. I'm enjoying the moment! 🙂
beloved of some surgeons and also TBF some patients (I reckon maybe a combination of being told they're "stepping up" to it from things like dihydrocodeine or ibuprofen and also that it gives 'em a bit of a buzz - like your granny and her distalgesics)
"bit" of a reputation for neuropsychiatric side effects because it's not just an opioid:
Tramadol produces analgesia by two mechanisms: an opioid effect and an enhancement of serotonergic and adrenergic pathways. It has fewer of the typical opioid side-effects (notably, less respiratory depression, less constipation and less addiction potential); psychiatric reactions have been reported
I was given tramadol when I broke my hip and had to get my leg sliced open and the bones bolted back together with 3 bloody great carriage bolts. Thing about a broken hip is, it hurts like a mother****** but also, you can't just lie in bed- you need to get up and about and partially weight it to get the bones to grow back together. This stings a touch. So, they give you tramadol. And it was my bestest friend. I kept a few back, there's 2 in my camelbak just in case i never need to walk off a mountain with a broken collarbone or something. But I wouldn't use them for my headache.
I was on 4 x 100mg a day for 3 or 4 weeks after destroying my shoulder. Mmmmmm comfortable fizzy spine. I can see why people get addicted to opiates.
Like northwind I've saved a couple for emergencies. 😉
