Considering buying a van and quite fancy a Connect. Have about 3 grand to spend and pretty much everything on Auto trader is well over 100000 miles. Don't mind high mileage but was wondering if anyone has any experience of Transit Connect reliability  or could suggest alternatives .

I went for a test drive in a connect and didn't like it.

Ended up buying a Peugeot Partner and it's a much nicer place to be.

It's been good to me so far and does get 55mpg.

Mind you, it's French, so watch this space.

Obviously for that money it'll be the older shape and having ridden in one I'd say avoid. They're VERY van like, my mate has one for work and we always end up taking my astra van rather than his for anything that involves over an hours drive. Quite noisy and very basic compared to the Astra van. I've had 4 vauxhalls (3 Mk4 and currently have a Mk5) and they're much nicer to drive than the Connect. The downside being they're not nearly as big inside but I'm happy with that as it's normally only me in it. The other option is a Caddy but it'll be ropey for that sort of money - they have the VW tax on them.

Also - I'd personally avoid any ex-british gas vans as they're normally restricted to 60mph or whatever it is. A relative had one and it was a fortune to remove the limiter.
