Off on a trip to New England region of USA.

Wondering if anyone has done riding/day hikes there Vermont/New Hampshire/Maine etc.

Normally go west but fancy exploring east for a change.

Places to stay/ideas.

Thanks.

loved it there - did a circuit biking and hiking around white mountains - cranmore and loon both excellent (although came a cropper at cranmore so mtb cut a bit short) - bit less ‘harsh’ than rockies but the americans know trails - then hiking lafayette (ridge) was epic - mt washington weather turned and almost killed me (predictable) - depends where you start from but i did  airbnb’s in campton franconia then north conway - really good tap room/ micro breweries too - loved it - would go again in a flash

Nice one - thank you.

I did a tiny bit of the Rockies in Colorado in Crested Butte last year but have to keep it holiday level of safe riding  - partner doesn't do real teccy trails.

I will look all those up!

On the off chance you like park riding, Highland Bike Park in New Hampshire is really fun! A good mix of flow, jumps and tech. Been there twice and it was great.

that whole northern fringe of white mountains is full of tamer bike paths/lakes/trails - komoot was great for those - I got the basic map and winged it each day - it’s like snowdonia foothills on steroids (scale and size tbh)

I have recently moved to Connecticut, I've done a couple of trips over the winter to ski in Vermont but not been their for Mountain Biking, Kingdom Trails seem to be one of the main areas people head to, also many of the ski resorts like Killington seem to have bike parks. We have being going west to upstate NY which is not New England. Also don't discount niping across the border to Quebec City if you are in Northern Vermont, that is where my local chapter of NEMBA do their annual weekend away as it is closer than Maine,

Kingdom trails in East Burke Vermont. Lots of it. Good beer options and very good bike shop if hiring. We had Tallboys. Needed shoes. They took 2 new pairs of Shimano out of the box, added cleats and charged us $5 to rent. Pissed with rain all day and the boots were trashed when we handed them back.

Kingdom trails going on the list!

I assume the weather is mostly better than the UK? It's a fair way down compared to us.

Always had amazing weather when we've gone to the states. But appreciate this is a totally different climate to the mid-west.

Can you remember the name of the bike rental shop?

Pretty sure it was East Burke Sports and they were renting Tallboys and 5010. Chilled ski town with a craft beer tiki bar when we were there. Weather generally good, just not that day. If you like beer then Hill Farmstead at Greensboro Bend is a must, also Alchemist at Stowe are near. Warning re navigation, there are lots of off-road tracks and satnav in our hire car, SUV style but limited off road capability, assumed everything was accessible. Several started benign but turned into full on rock gardens. Had to reverse down one mountain half mile or more. Stressful!

Again Kingdom Trails in VT are great, spent a long weekend a few years back riding tandems there at an mtb tandem meet a few years back.

Also hiked a bit whilst we were there, enjoyed the hike up from Franconia Notch up the Old Bridlepath to the hut (had lunch there too) then back along the ridge and down, not super long but nice to get our boots on the Appalacian Trail if only for short while.

Was skiing in VT this weekend and the June Edition of Vermont Sports Magazine was in our accommodation, article on page 24 might be useful for trails and Page 7 for places to stay. I'ts available online at VTSports.com https://vtsports.com/vermont-sports-2023-june-issue/
