I have followed share prices for a number of american companies - mainly amazon , microsoft and apple. And all have been doing amazing. I should have bought years ago but didnt.

With the looming brexit and general recession on the cards i believe its a good idea to get my £ into something else before the £ is devalued further. Has anyone got experience/advice for buying US shares. I've read a few bits and pieces, but not found a easy method to work out what the share price would need to rise to in order to offset fee's etc.

Whats the singletrack Hive mind think?

I have doubled down on US Tech stocks recently. The whole working from home thing has been enabled by Tech companies who are profitable and indispendible in the modern world.

My biggest holding is Scottish Mortage Trust, followed by Fundsmith Equity. Both of which have been the best performing funds over the last 2-3 years in my portfolio. NB SMT's biggest holding is Tesla, which is a bit of a outlier as not profitable and wildly over valued, but its share price keeps going up.

Couple of ways to do it, Find an American Tech fund that invests in these firms, this would be priced in GBP and your risk is spread across a number of firms, or fill out a w-8ben form with an investment platform (I use Hargreaves Lansdown) and buy the shares directly in USD. Slightly more risky as any profit will be affected by the stock value and currency fluctuations. You'll also need a fair chuck of cash as Amazon shares are currently over $3200 each

Vanguard do a s and p 500 etf in GBP if you don’t want to worry about currency fluctuations

Wierd times at the minute with governments printing crazy amounts of cash and also buying stocks to keep the prices up, I bought some s and p 500 when corona first hit and it dropped from 3300 to 2400, I was waiting for it to hit 2000 and it went the other way even though individual stocks in general were going down lol
