The article originally said that trump had said that he wasn’t a Christian
A lot of people heard that and especially in the context (he's talking to christians as if they're a separate group from him "I love you christians") I can see why but really he just made a sort of weird noise, I'm pretty sure he was trying to say "I'm a christian" and went "I love you christians mmlllaaaamna christian"
Currently feeling quite smug about my £20 bet on Kamala.... I'm set to get a return of £55.
The odds are shortening quite fast (if that's the correct term? I don't really know anything about betting).

Have we done the RFK and the bear cub story yet?

that’s just nasty.
Roseanne Barr though it was funny.
Harris likely to reveal running mate on Thursday.
If chosen well this could really throw Trump's campaign into further trouble.

MSNBC are claiming Trumps team have already attacked with this
"From proposing his own carbon-free agenda, to suggesting stricter emission standards for gas-powered cars, and embracing policies to allow convicted felons to vote, Walz is obsessed with spreading California’s dangerously liberal agenda."
Umm...
About the Felons bit?
Let's hope they waltz through the rest of the campaign
Sorry

Link seems to be down but that would be awesome if true
May have been a copy and paste fail
Walz sounds like he gets things done.
Waltz is the complete antithesis of the weird Vance changeling.
Walz is an incredibly rare combination of all American kindly uncle with pretty rock solid progressive credentials, he's disarmingly retlatable but absolubtley not afraid to go for the GOP's throat, he's fantastic in interviews.
He has an old DUI conviction but it was ages ago and in the Mid-west that's almost seen as a positive.
Right now he's almost too perfect which is making me worried that there's some massive skeleton in his closet that we have yet to learn about.
Betting odds are now pretty much 50/50 so hopefully that will only improve as the campaign starts properly...

vvv cos despite 30 years fiddling with computers I still can’t keep up with the mechanics of this forum
…and it might be fake but Trump and that other idiot going balls out on him being a Commie

It's pretty obvious... I mean no god fearing christian would want...
**checks notes**
Medical care for the sick and elderly...
It's not what Jesus would want.
It’s not what Jesus would want.
Well, it would collapse the market in miraculous healing, wouldn't it?
I'm trying to avoid using the word "weird", but...
If you want to see how misinformation gets spread then Joe Rogan, chief bro science informer to the easily moulded idiots that hang on his every word would be a good place to start, the most popular podcaster with tens of millions listening to every dumb **** thing he says.
Thankfully only a 2min listen,
Good god, how have I only just heard that Trunp is pushing a "post birth abortion" lie.
WTF.
Theres some sort of spat between MAGA and Rogan going on https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/09/us/politics/joe-rogan-rfk-jr.html

My God, if RFK is "the only one who makes sense" to you, you are so far down the rabbit hole you need a visa for New Zealand!
I don't pay much attention to Rogan. But I hadn't realised what a complete republican shill he is. Putting forward ridiculous ideas and then saying he doesn't know if they are true, when a minute's googling would get the answer. He knows exactly what he is doing.
Didn't realise how few vice-presidents have actually become president under their own steam. 6.
Musk's pro-trump super PAC has been up to no good. They have a website encouraging people to register to vote - complete with a link to follow to fill out your voter registration.
If you click on the link - you're invited to fill out all your personal data, in order, as it says to register to vote, you submit, and it says thank you.
So you're registered to vote right?
Well you're certainly allowed to think you've registered to vote, but whether or not you actually have depends on your zip code.
the more I hear about this guy the less I like him
I don’t pay much attention to Rogan.
If you've got a Spotify subscription you're paying his wages - handsomely. To put it in proportion - Spotify pay Rogan almost as much for three to four 2hr podcasts a week as the BBC spends on Radios 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 combined.
I've got a mate who thinks he becomes an expert in something because he listens to a 2hr rogan podcast about it.....
Deeply frustrating because it's horseshit (or in this case horse tranquiliser).
I've listened to a few and even the ones I think are on interesting topics are pretty dull & shallow , I genuinely don't see the appeal, but not surprising he's a trump fan (tho his conspiracy theory leanings make him a good match for RFK Jr)

That. Is. A. Disgrace!
I do hope theres nothing incriminating. It's pretty poetic, given Hillary's emails back in '16...

Yep, there's always one... I don't speak to the one in my friendship circle any more, for very similar reasons.
"Have you listened to the new j..."
No.
“ Didn’t realise how few vice-presidents have actually become president under their own steam”
You (generally) don’t pick a VP that could become a threat to you.
Trump campaign says its internal messages hacked by Iran.
Politico said that in late July it began receiving emails from a person who identified themselves only as “Robert” using an AOL email account.
An AOL email account ...lol!
Fantastic design fail on Trump supporters cards. I was taught early on, that in order to make text stand out you use black or another very dark colour, with bold type. This is a classic facepalm moment. For a bit more context, the cards are double-sided…

Theres another fail involved, Celine Dion had this to say about the music choice.
Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing “My Heart Will Go On” at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana. In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use. …And really, THAT song?
The song being from Titanic
An AOL email account …lol!
It's a reliable indicator of privilege, affording internet access and a computer at that time required a certain level of wealth. The fact the address hasn't changed shows that the individual doesn't spend money on replacing things that work well enough for them.

This is pretty insidious too, because back in the day this was more or less his schtick- get interesting, informed guests on and play dumb to encourage them to be smart. Used to be very entertaining sometimes but at some point he had a huge audience that lapped up the "dumb and wrong" part and werent't very into the "interesting, informed" part.
But he still has a chunk of fans and a little respectibility from the old version
Of all the things I've read this week, this is the most
I'm not sure if it's genius or too painful to be funny
I'm not sure if I like living in a world where you have to be this clear early on in your parodies that you are doing a parody.
I suffer from Anal Fissures up by my Rectum and the doctor in my town clinic is called Hussein (like Barack Hussein Obama), and he has not been able to fix my problems like an American doctor would. If this “Dr.” Hussein had been stopped in Mexico, I would not have Anal Fissures.
I mean, it is a parody, right?
He knows exactly what he is doing.
JAQing off.
Who knows what’s real anymore
Yes, AI fakes can be pretty darn hard to spot.

Pretty scary commentary here from Carol Cadwalladr on the brazenness of social media (compared to 2020) in peddling and amplifying lies and misinformation. Suggestion being that the recent involvement by that weapons grade Twitter bell-end stirring up shit in the UK was just a dry run for November.
I don't know if anyone else has noticed this. I try and keep my youtube feed free from politics, especially US politics, since Harris has entered the race, the stuff I am "cleaning" from my feed seems to be positive stuff about Harris and Waltz, before I had been cleaning out the usual maga alt right bullshit for what feels like the last decade.
Just read an article in the Guardian with post VP debate opinions from swing states, there were quite a few considered opinions, but this was a gem;
I almost kicked over the TV when the moderators started factchecking Vance. I thought that wasn’t allowed in this debate.
I mean let’s not let the actual facts get in the way!
Not much movement anywhere in the race at the moment, except election betting odds where in the last few days there has been a big swing from Harris to Trump (well, from 52% Harris likelihood to 52% Trump likelihood which given the fact things have barely moved for weeks is a big swing).
I suspect it has something to do with Musk bigging up polymarket during his Trump shilling session causing a bunch of tech/crypto bros to start betting on Trump (because they understand probability less than they understand tech).
It's particularly visible on the state betting.
Nate Silver actually posted about this recently which is interesting as he is an advisor for polymarket but unfortunately the juicy bits are behind a paywall.

Don't suppose anyone who happens to give Silver £15 a month fancies giving us the gist?
