22 years goes up to 28 after criminal verbally abuses judge after being sentenced.
I wonder how stw will react... apparently black men get worse sentences for the same crimes than white.
Hard to say without knowing a lot more detail but 6 years off a 28 year sentence for showing remorse seems reasonable. ...and if were happy for 6 years off for showing remorse I guess we have to be happy with those 6 years back on if the remorse is in question.
Without detailed knowledge of the US justice system its hard to be sure...
The best list I can find of the offences and some of the guy's background is here:
He sounds like a thoroughly nasty individual...
It's quite petty on the part of the judge though, isn't it?
If 22 years was the "right" sentence then it just seems vindictive to change it because the guy (presumably angry at the prospect of spending the next 22 years in prison) started shouting.
Later on that day, the judge was heard telling a cyclist “I didn’t hear your bell” ...
What a spiteful, nasty man that judge is.
Edit: didn’t read the case but if the judge deemed it just that 22 years was fitting for the crime then why should he be allowed to add some on when the crime hadn’t changed?
When you only see prison as punishment this is what happens.
Judges should be measured, careful and fair.
Six years in jail for having a shout whilst under immense pressure seems pretty unfair to me, despite being a hang em high sort myself.
That probably gave the judge the closest thing to a hardon he's had in a while.

In response, the judge added six more years.
“Actually, you know what? Remember, remember when I said that you had shown remorse,” Mr Lucci said over Bryant’s shouting. “When I said you had a certain amount of remorse, I was mistaken. The court determines, the court determines a maximum imprisonment is needed.”
Actually reading the article, he got a 6 yr reduction in sentence for showing remorse, which the judge then removed.
My reading of it was not that the judge added 6 more years, but that he removed the 6 years that had been taken off. This had been done at his discretion, therefore he had the discretion to reverse it...
Lol too slow

Are you trolling to try and get a reaction? Do you think many people in here understand enough about the US legal system to know if the sentence was comensurate with others? If it is common practice to deal with behaviour this way? Whether the US system would normally deal with this as contempt (as per the UK)? Nor whether this judge has dealt with offenders of other ethnic origins similarly? Presumably the offender has the right to appeal his sentence; judges do make mistakes like anyone else and they can be overturned if wrong.
I’m more interested in the cameras in the court room. We never get to see such things from UK courts*, would it make sentences more understandable if they were recorded in the UK or would it lead to either grandstanding by the judge or viral marketing campaigns by convicted criminals (or indeed furious victims) to try and twist what was said? Does promoting an outcome like this (whether you think it was right or not) help discourage other offenders from reacting in a way that disrupts the court or actually encourage people facing lengthy sentences to make a dramatic exit and get their moment of infamy?
*except the Supreme Court but it’s not really reflective of everyday courts.
If he ever ends up in court, here's hoping that Trump has a super sweary rant.

Sorry I thought as an ex-lawyer you might have had an interest in the jurisprudence but I realise now you were just trying to stir up an argument about whether it was racist or not.
I see Fred’s managed to get back in under the radar, BTW…
That right? So which account were you banned under?
That would be telling. I daresay the Great Foot In The Sky will be stamping on me any second now, though... 😻

Poly I have no idea why you are being like this.
Can't anyone post or comment on anything now without being a qualified expert?
Of course none of us knows this case in any detail, all I was interested in were people's views - isn't that what forums are for?

Reference please.
Private prisons are a bad idea- America proves why.
Edit: private as in privately owned
Drac can you provide authority for that question?

Maybe they just catch and convict more criminals ?
