Wychwood make a fine Pale Ale called Circlemaster, tried it the other night, very mellow.

leffe blond - sooo good

second the summer lightning - you'll need 4 mind -the first one is always a bit sharp but you'll settle in to it. . . .

First beer to get two votes, I rest my case.

I tried wychwood blonde for the first time on Tuesday night, not bad but sharper than I expected. I've got a bit of acid indigetion so I think I'll pass on the summer lightning. I've pretty much kaned the erdinger(all flavours ) and hoegarden recently, hence the post.

Anyone else recommend leffe? What's it similar to?

Sampled Bitter & Twisted for the 1st time at the weekend. Be picking up a few more this Saturday.

I'll have a go at describing it but I'm no Oz Clarke! I'd say it's similarish to hoegarden but with more depth and a complex yeasty, sweet but sharp aftertaste. Very pleasant.

Hmm, one says leffe is pish basically. Another says it's like hoegarden. I may have to pick up a small bottle to satisfy my curiosity.

Is bitter and twisted fairly common? Will I get in sainsburys or will I need to go to a specialist offie?

Of those, I love the Radiuese, a warm spiced one (hard to find) and the 9 is a stunner. Had some on a business trip to Brussels the other day. Sublime.

If you like those, look out for Orval, Duvel, Chimay (the Blue is my choice), Westmalle (Go for the Triple) and many, many more.

Strange but nice bitter - Innes & Gunn - not the Blonde stuff but there is one stored in whiskey barrels

Day to Day drinking - Theakstons Old peculiar or London Pride

if you're off to Sainsbury's. - they do their own belgian style beer - 6 bottles for about £4 i think it's about 6/7% really good stuff, worth a try.

CFH - I've only ever seen one variety of leffe (in sainsburys) as my nearest specialist offie does almost entirely German and Czech beers with the odd random belgian thrown in.

I'll pick up the blonde tonight and give it a testdrive, of the ones you've mentioned I've tried Orval and Duvel but tbh they were not to my liking.

I'll also try and aquire some bitter and twisted. Johnoo, thanks for the list chap - I'll print it out for my Friday night shop!

can't remember the name of it but look for one by badger brewery says on the label its got hints of melon loverlly

golden glory i think

Golden Champion I think - hint of peach (although it could be Golden Glory - there's one of each). Guy at work tried it, thought someone had spilled rosewater in it. He was not impressed 😀

Adnam's "Broadside", but only from a pub that knows how to keep it!

BTW some of the above are pale, verging on 'lager'ish (e.g. Schiehallion) while others are very dark (Old P, ESB, Victory, Hobgoblin). Depends what you like really. The darker ones [i]tend[/i] to be a bit sweeter (and stronger!)

Second Blandford Fly and Golden Glory. I love those two. All of the Bath Ales beers are good, especially Dark Hare. Black Sheep's Rigwelter is marvellous, Innis & Gunn is excellent, especially in the large bottles, and the St Peter's Golden Ale I had earlier tonight was very nice indeed. All in all, a bunch of good suggestions all round, and there's a few on here I'll be making a note of for my next trip to the supermarket... ;0)

If you have a Booths supermarket nearby (i.e. you're in the NW of England) then it's "kid in a candy store" time 😉

All of the other major supermarkets have good stuff too, but Booths is the best (IMO).

For Yorkshire folk I believe there's one in Settle; there's definitely one in Ilkley

while we're on the subject...

look out for your local CAMRA beer festival. Do NOT sample anything that you can easily get at your local or your local supermarket, you can try that any time.

Well, following the recomendations last night I decided to buy two of the following - Leffe Bruin, Leffe Blond, Bitter and twisted, Belfast Ale, and one bottle of butcombe.

Leffe Blonde was quite nice, fruity and sharp, not dissimilar to Hoegarden but not quite as drinkable. Bitter and twisted I found to be enjoyable but perhaps better suited to a pub lunch outside on a sunny day, it actually reminded me a lot of Innis & Gunn red only milder. Of the two I'd prefer the Innis & Gunn though.

Belfast Ale was not entirely unpleasant, had I only bought that I would have been pleased but......it reminded me of a nasty version of the Leffe Bruin which was a bit of a revelation TBH, absolutely fantastic beer - I dont really have the lexicon to do it justice but I really enjoyed it. My new favourite tipple for sure.

I shall sample the butcombe tonight.

Cascade Summer Blonde. Mmmm...

Brains SA Gold and Marston Double Drop are my current favourites.
