Wasn't there an MTB quote or saying from the 90's something along the lines of 'ur bike is Saricin' - an intentional misspelling of Saracen?  Before the days of memes and social media; late nineties or early noughties.

Was all the rage on here in the early noughties, but i don't know the true origin

I remember the origins, but it’s not worth digging up. Let’s just say it involved immature teen boys on the early MBUK website insulting someone else a way that would get you an instant ban these days.

Thought it was Ur bik iz sarcin to reference the days when saracen were a halfords special brand.

The equivalent now would probably be a homebrew like bird or cotic.

It was - prior to the Halfords days they were a well regarded maker of nice steel framed bikes such as the Kili Pro. Then management decided to chase the ££££s and produced tat for Halford.

I never saw it as harmful insult - just a jokey way to say someone's bike was a bit pants. Widely used on this forum.

Wasn’t the Saracen part that was the problem.  Some clueless idiot completely mid spelled an insult containing a derogatory word. This was jumped on and that person was mocked for the spelling. The derogatory term got dropped along the way but it still became a big joke to insult someone by saying they rode a sarcin.

Their early bikes in the 80s were really nice!

I remember lusting after a Tuff Trax? in my local bike shop which I couldn't afford..

I have a vivid memory of looking at the "Biopace" sticker on the chainset on the bike in my local store and thinking "wow"!

I was probably 16/17 at the time.

“u r xc jeyboy”

To me that's not really an insult, just a statement of fact!

@footflaps- I was a bit older, and only bought it as the muddy fox I wanted had sold.

Me too. Tuff Trax was the almost attainable lust, always just out of reach. Killi Flyer was the bike of my dreams that I knew I'd never own.

Which I think is how most people remember it. I used it on a thread here the other day.

"Ur Mum is Sarcin" is the version that made me smile at the fluidity of language

There was a working MBUK translator, maybe Brant had something to do with that iirc.

Carrera yes but both of those are well respected niche brands making good bikes. Nothing like the Halfords era Saracen.

It was adopted as a badge of pride by a number of people. I seem to remember there was a "i m xc jeyboy" t-shirt.

Was wondering if someone would bite 😂

Personally i always thought the Apollo Rampage was the bik to have back in t'day, way better than any of the sarcin range!

Aah, glad it isn't a figment of my imagination - many comments bring back some memories from a certain era!

I also remember lusting after the very early Saracan hardtails in the early (?) nineties...

The funniest thing I remember on here was some guy blowing up a tubeless tyre and getting covered in spaff. The picture was priceless. Was it someone called Badger?

‘The Badger’ thread was not just one of the best threads ever on here, but one of the pinnacle points of the whole internet

Didn't Badger threaten to take out the internet image hosting service if they didn't remove his photo, only to discover that it was the same provider that hosted Pornhub and several other niche image sites so the sight of a guy with latex and white gloop on him was nothing special.

I had a "UR BIK IZ SARICIN" sticker from one of the sheets on the front of MBUK, so if didn't orignate on their forum, they certainly popularised it.

Ha, ha. I’ve just found the picture of Badger by Googling tubeless, badger, tyres. It’s still funny even with the penguin!

Pretty sure it was from the mbuk forums, in the late 90s, and that it predated bikemagic.
