I think I'm fairly IT literate, however STW seems to be the hardest site in the world to upload photo's too! Can anyone please give me some tips in layman's terms as following the below instructions don't seem to work:

Thanks if anyone can help!
🙂

Posting an Image

The image must be hosted on the internet somewhere.

If it is on your computer you must first upload it to a photo hosting site. Try a search for image hosting to get you started.

Once you have chosen the image you want to show on the forum you need to find its URL (universal resource locator – its location on the internet).

Do this by right clicking on the image and choosing “copy image location” (or similar wording depending on your web browser). Note that this must be the location of the image itself, not the URL of the page it is on.

Then go to the forum and type :

[img] [/img]

Where ‘ ’ is the URL you just retrieved.

If you are linking to an image that you do not own copyright on then you must link back to the originating website by adding the [url] tag around the [img] tag as so:

[url= http://www.singletrackworld.com/common/logo.pn g" target="_blank">http://www.singletrackworld.com/common/logo.pn g"/> [/img][/url]

I beg to differ 😉

host your pic on flickr/picasa/your own server & domain/side of a cow/tinypic

(try http://tinypic.com/)

take url of said pic (it will either tell you the url on the webpage for use in linking, or right hand click onthe image and Copy Image URL)

paste it between the tags: [img ]http://[/img ]

Put the bit that ends in .jpg between [img] and [/img] with no spaces.

[/img]

with the spaces out is;

[img] [/img]

The key part is that you aren't uploading it to STW. It must already be hosted somewhere else - you just link to it.

Thanks guys... I've uploaded to photo bucket already and got the url, it's just the bit which stoner mentioned:

here: [img ]http://[/img ] that I was unsure of...

Below is what I want to link to, so thanks again for the help! 😀 .html?sort=3&o=3

[img] [/img]

you see the bit on your page that says "Links to share this photo"" and "Direct"? copy the address in that box and stick that in the tags.

using this URL of the photo, not the page url:

and adding the [url ] [/url ] (with the extra spaces removed)
[img] [/img]

edit: Opps 😀

If you use Photobucket, tapping on the URL box gives you a link on your clipboard that you just paste into the post box on here.
How much simpler can it be to both understand and do!
Even Flickr is fairly straight forward, any complexity is due to Flickr's rather convoluted system for linking photos.
STW is, to my understanding, no different to the great majority of fora and web sites who require that photos be hosted on a third-party site, like Photobucket, Picasa or Flickr.
For someone who's allegedly IT literate, you seem to be rather lacking in your understanding of a standard web procedure.
Here: this is how it looks after you've uploaded a pic to Photobucket, then tapped on the chain icon at the top:

[IMG] [/IMG]

Which gives you this, after you've tapped the IMG code box:

[IMG] [/IMG]

And all you do is paste that into the post box here, where it'll look like this:

[IMG] [/IMG]

only there won't be spaces after the [IMG] and the http, or after .jpg and the [/IMG].

Thanks for your help all. I haven't managed to do it yet and have run out of time for now. I guess it's easy when you know how! 😀

BTW Surely their must be an easier way of doing it than this?

Thanks again

I'm not sure where there is to go from here if copy and paste is too complex. Even CZ's iPad does it these days.

Not bashing, but this does come up repeatedly on here, even within the last two or three weeks, and after a while, it does become a bit of a facepalm situation, so apologies for seeming a bit terse.
I'll be honest, Flickr has caused me frustration on quite a few occasions, but that's down to Flickr being less than an example of consomethinge clarity and user friendliness, which is why I use Photobucket, but photo hosting has been the standard on here as long as I've been here, which is ten years now. 🙂

Slight hijack:
Is it possible to link a video from youtube using my ipad? When I've tried in the past it hasn't worked.

As said above, us the buttons on you host to copy the direct link, then paste onto STW reply box.

Summitchilterns...I totally sympathise with your frustrations. I to have always failed to get photo's on any forum despite putting pictures with photobucket etc...I have a love/hate relation with anything I.T. and have to ask my mate to add photo's for me...I think you either get it or live in shame..hohumm!!

Dunno about iDevices but,

You need the full URL (so youtube.com not youtu.be) and regular http:// rather than https://

Also, strip anything after the /watch?v=videocode bit.
