Well, it's been a bit of a funny year hasn't it? All sorts of things have gone wrong - people have died, we've stopped going to pubs, facemasks, all the rest of it. A year designed by a sadist really.

Anyway, what's your thoughts about concerts? I'm a fairly regular gig goer and I'm not sure with the changes in the world how it's all going to work in the future.

I was supposed to be seeing Michael Kiwinuka in Newcastle in early September but I see he's now been rescheduled for next year. After it was rescheduled from March due to non covid related reasons.

I'm just about to book This is the Kit for next March.

I've got Peat & Diesel at the Cluny in November - which is on so far. Was supposed to be seeing Paul Weller at the Usher in the same week but that's been rescheduled to next year.

I was semi interested in the drive in open air concerts that were announced for the summer but they've all been cancelled.

What have you got coming up, what are your views about being in a crowded room with 500 other folks, is this the end of live music?

This year has been horrendous, the timing of lockdown, came right at the peak of gig season, so I must’ve missed at least half a dozen gigs, a few of them being bands I’ve been desperate to see for years - eg. clipping. who haven’t rescheduled and probably won’t as they’re are a U.S artist, gutted about that... Girl Band also, they’re Ireland based and have cancelled. A few have rescheduled, but others just cancelled.
I don’t think it’s the end of live music at all, but I can see it’ll be only UK based artists for a good few years until travel is back to normal, if that ever happens.
Odd one is the Jimmy Carr show I booked in 2018, without realising it was in 2020. Been rescheduled for mid-August and confirmed. Not sure how the audience set-up will be for that, just a few weeks away now.

The Jimmy Carr one will be really interesting - as I'm assuming he usually sells out and is usually on in theatres I can't imagine how they'd manage to social distance under the current rules. Would be rubbish for the performer not to see folks faces if they're wearing masks too!

Just about to book for Pitchshifter in 2021...

I was lucky, literally the week before lockdown was a brilliant week of gigs- Trail of Dead in Edinburgh, 3 Hold Steady shows in London and Frank Turner in Glasgow. Just as well I didn't have coronavirus really or I'd have been a superspreader.

Thing is, for most of my gigs there's not much substitute for getting sweaty, social distance or all seated or drive-in just doesn't work. For the folky stuff and maybe some of the Horrible Noise like Mogwai and the likes, there's ways it can, but for punk and metal and rock and roll I just can't see any point to it til it can come back properly. And it's, well, heartbreaking really. Obviously nothing like losing a loved one of course but it's been such a core part of my life for 20 years now, I wouldn't be who I am without it and I'm not really sure what that means when it's gone.

It will be back, I'm sure, but not soon. Well, here in Scotland we could probably do it and be almost as safe as it gets but that's not going to cut it

The Men They Couldn't Hang - postponed from Easter to the week before Christmas.

Country to Country - next March - whole event was slipped a year to 2021.

Hollywood Vampires - has been postponed from this September to Aug-21. Slightly annoying as i wanted to extend my summer holiday and it now clashes.

Only got one gig booked at the mo.... Hella Mega Tour in the London Stadium. Moved from June this year to June next year. Gutted as I have wanted to see Green Day for years and missed them in Milton Keynes which is 15 mins down the road from me

Was supposed to go to Neighbourhood in the summer, bit that's postponed till next year.

Got ticket booked for the osee's in November but not heard either way what's going on there.

I want to go see the chats in April next year, but that still seems unlikely.

I just can't see how good can get back to anything like normality for a long time to come (in the absence of a vaccine.)

I think it'll be quite a while until I'd feel comfortable going to a gig again. Had a ticket for Mr Ben & The Bens back in April, postponed until Sept and then again until April '21 - it would be nice to be able to go then but not holding my breath.

Have tickets for 3 gigs that were postponed till next year
Nick Cave,
Dub Pistols
Flaming Lips,
And have bought tickets for 2 gigs early next year ( more in hope than expectation
Fenne Lilly
Billy no mates
But not sure any will go ahead

Although fair play to Brudenell and Belgrave music hall in Leeds for trying to put on some low key socially distant gigs...

I do miss my live music,

In grim style I haven’t managed to attend a ‘major’ gig since 2015 (GSYBE @Colston Hall) and then I missed all but the last 15 minutes because of an accident on the M5.

So earlier this year I bought tickets for me and a mate to see Osees @ SWX in May this year. Weeks after the purchase it dawned on me that it wasn’t to be.

Eventually they put the gig back to this November, but even now I can’t think that two old overweight blokes with multiple dependents are best-placed in an indoor moshpit Autumn 2020 edition.

2 x tickets available. Worst stealth ad ever.

Maybe in another 5 years I’ll get to see a band. By then I’ll be old enough to be going ****ing lawn bowling 😝

My Jimmy Carr one is now in April 2021 - along with other reschedule - Squarepusher.
before that supposed to have Squid at the Joiners in March, and erm Squid in April at the 1865. That's what my calendar says anyway.. Nathan Fake April 1st (arf), Cabbage in May.

Really can't see these happening.

Got tix for Idles album launch thing in Soton. I think it might be seated, which is pretty pointless gigging for me!

Had loads cancelled during the last 6 months

Pixies/pearl jam
Reggae festy with Toots headlining😔 plus loads of others
Black crowds
Sqid
BC Camplight

Some have rescheduled for next year but others probably won't happen now.
My local venue is looking shakey, they have opened back up and done one gig but it was seated!! And broadcast as a live link and seeing how they trade on mainly metal and rock/indie I can't see many bands bothering.

I’ve missed a few ‘pro’ gigs which will no doubt be rescheduled for 2021: The Mission, The Damned & Stiff Little Fingers.
My band had 7 or 8 gigs scheduled as of March, all cancelled apart from one that has been rescheduled for early December. This one not so much due to COVID-19 but more to do with the local licensing officer disliking anything that is perceived as ‘loud’ 🙁 - otherwise it would have been next weekend

Really missing the gig scene at the moment. Had tickets to see Within Destruction but that’s been put back to next year.

Paid for a live stream at the weekend for Corey Taylor. It was ok.

At least I managed to get to one gig this year in January 😩

Yeah I got to a handful in Jan/Feb/March

Last one was The Sisters Of Mercy Leeds (of course). Surprisingly good compared to previous experiences

This thread made me realise I had no idea what had cancelled, what had rescheduled, what I have refunds for or what I might need to buy again, so I thought I'd better check 'em out.

Brass Against were the first casualty for me, and funnily enough also officially my next gig, next month- obviously not going to happen, but not yet cancelled. The Wildhearts bizarrely in Galashiels and Stirling, rescheduled, clearly nothing as pissant as covid could kill that band and February is plenty of time for them to split up and reform a couple of times.. Biffy at Bellahouston Park, probably quite covid resistant. 65DOS next November. Mogwai, ever the optimists, cancelled their February tour.

Trying to convince the old festival crew that we should do Download. I've never heard of 80% of the bands because I'm old and modern metal is all shit but it still looks pretty solid.

Peat & Diesel have cancelled their Winter tour, so that's another one bitten the dust since I started this thread.

I have got the Bluetones on Saturday night this weekend - streamed from London rather than in person. And Daniel Kitson streamed live from an empty theatre in Liverpool at the end of the month. Maybe this is going to be the new normal?

I'm going to try and get my Mrs to overcharge me for beer and spill some around and stand in front of me to try and get the full gig experience on Saturday. And for the Daniel Kitson show I'm going to ban myself from coming back into the room if I need to nip for a pee - again, will just make it seem more like I'm there in person......

From this year that have been cancelled / moved / resheduled etc.
John Grant - Was at Festival theatre in Edinburgh, I think now at Barrowlands some time next year.
Jesus & Mary Chain - Was in Glasgow. Officially rescheduled but suspect will never happen.
Stag & Dagger festival in Edinburgh - Multiple reshedules. Think officially still happening next year.
Lovely Eggs - Was Mash House in Edinburgh. Multiple reshedules already. Currently February next year but will defininitely happen eventually.
Indietracks festival - Cancelled this year. Intends to carry on as normal next year.
Emma Kupa, Peaness (I think) & various other small bands at Brig Below in Edinburgh. I think all cancelled as they tend to tour sporadically during holiday from other jobs.

Pearl Jam, L7, Faith No More and Fontaines DC. Pearl Jam is outdoors so no doubt a little safer but I don't fancy a sweaty Electric Ballroom/Brixton Academy type environment at the moment. Hopefully in 9 months time things will be different.

It's anyone's guess if they'll actually go ahead though.

Had tickets for Great Lake Swimmers, also at the Cluny, in April. They're Canada-based, so I imagine rescheduling isn't going to be easy. Seems to be no news - thanks for the reminder to check: I bought paper tickets from the bar like the old days so I'm not going to find out unless I look.

Considering booking tickets for an Erland Cooper concert in Edinburgh next May. Seems a bit risky, but I guess the live events industry could do with some cash in right now. I don't want to throw money away, but I won't go hungry if I don't get it back, so will probably go for it.

Those two gigs would probably be alright socially-distanced, being very much at the mellow end of the spectrum, but agree with Northwind: gigs just won't be the same not being in the middle of a packed crowd. I can't even get my head round seated gigs. Now I think about it, I miss mosh pits 🙁

Pre-lockdown was the greatest number of tickets I've had in hand, was particularly looking forward to Ulver, FNM and Raketkannon. My own band now faces the prospect of releasing a new record with zero opportunity to gig, arguing about the logic of live-streaming a "gig" of new material when we spent ages working out how to reproduce the live sound of the band for the record.

Great steaming pits of mosh.

Yep, brass bands will be the last allowed back. Obvious superspreader is obvious.

Also their singer has cannons for lungs. But it's more about the crowd situation really, there's still no way to make that work in a high covid prevalence country, which is totally what we'll still be
