Driving towards Shawbury in Shropshire today when a black Volvo estate and two Porsche Cayenne's all with blacked out windows and with flashing blue lights sped past in convey. Clearly in a hurry as they muscled their way through the traffic lights on red!

Who/what could be so important?

Not the same, but similar, on the A38 through Somerset we've seen unmarked cars, blues & twos, seemingly in pursuit of each other, cars full of bobbies. Traffic cop who rides with us says it's high speed training. Quite regular. Gotta be done somewhere I suppose. No idea 'bout the OP tho'

If they're using Porsche cayenne's, then they need their budgets cutting!

As Pooley says lot of covert training going on, could be all kinds of departments, training or on a job.

RAF Shawbury, is the helicopter training centre for the Armed forces, and windsors, grandkids fly helicopters, so possibly a rush to the big mac shed at shrewsbury and back again.

Didn't turn off to the base carried straight on on the A53

(Mr MC posting)

what order and how close? Close protection officers drive big fast 4x4s (so they can smash johnny terrorist out of the way), and a typical convoy would be 2 4x4s and the principal in a normal, quality motor in between. Ive been passed by a convoy of trainees and the 4x4s will ride very close to the car to prevent johnny terrorist (or Mr Mondeo, they dont know who is who) getting in between them and will bully people out of the way.

I'm in Oxford, but my advanced driving and surveillance courses took me to the south coast, most of wales, the fens, and as far as tebay for lunch for a dedicated motorway day. They go where the good roads are, and also where the national speed limits are, as the +20 rule discussed in another police driving thread is applied in training and usually interpeted to apply to posted limits not the national. So we could only do 70 in a 50, but *cough* considerably more in a 60.

Very close, bumper to bumper, but interestingly the Volvo estate was leading and actual went past the lorry in front of me but the two 4x4's had to wait due to oncoming traffic, they soon caught up though.

Well, you can get up to silly speeds on that stretch around Shawbury to Tern Hill, where there is of course the Barracks - perhaps royalty was paying a low key visit to the recently returned, but shirley they would fly direct to Tern Hill not to Shawbury.

Doubt it was a Muller delivery - they don't go past 35.

Nah they've been gone for ages and their protection goons were driving around in Range Rovers (in the dark, with lights out, attempting to go through closed cast iron driveway gates 😯 ).

Some years ago a colleague of mine was once forced out of the way on a motorway by a similar convoy, except it was a 4-5 police liveried volvo estates and they were escorting a plain white transit van. Annoys him that he doesn't know what/who was in the van!

Round here the old bill only bung the lights and sirens on when the cake shop is about to close...

Or something terrible's happened, like a cyclist has gone through a red light or something.

Ex secret service guy told me about the motorbike pursuit training. You got a 'free pass' in case dibble stopped you, but if they caught you, you'd failed the test.

there was a convoy of 6 blacked out BMWs and Audis today at Munich airport. god knows who they were ferrying, but the number of police was stupid.

also saw Air Force One upon landing at Stansted.

exciting.

Speaking of roads in Shropshire. Anyone ever use Shottaton cross roads quite often? Hate trying to get across that road when it's busy!

If it was a security escort drive, the Volvo shouldn't have gone for the O/T unless there was space for all three cars to go through. They travel as one unit and should never be split. Driver one calls it, with two and three right up his chuff throughout. Can make for an interesting chat later if driver three has to bail because driver one misjudged the gap.

It may look mental but it's safer than leaving larger gaps.

Muller Yoghurt deliveries.

Damn, I was offered a job in Muller years ago.

They didn't mention that a Porsche was one of the perks!
