Can someone recommend a legit site or way of unlocking my 4s from vodafone please - it's only 4 months old so still within the contract - ie vodafone don't want to know

I unlocked mine with Vodafone, I told them I wanted to use the phone in Turkey where the costs are horrendous, and I wanted to use a Vodafone Turkey sim

Yes phoned them and they organised with Apple to send unlock data

My phone was well within contract, I said I was living out there for 2 months of the year, a fib

There was no cost

Most networks will unlock contract iPhones once you've had them for at least three months. Some are free, others (like Orange) charge £20 or so.
