So, my wife's contract with EE ends today. Contacted them yesterday about unlocking it for the new SIM (new supplier) and they said, "Yeah, no problem. Just type 'unlock' and send to 150". Done this and nothing back. As I said her contract ends today and I don't want her to be cut off with a locked handset. Any advice gratefully received.

That just sends your your status. You need to go to https://myaccount.ee.co.uk/app/settings and unlock from there.
Having said that, earlier this year I just called them and they provided the code over the phone.
