You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
That you don't find anywhere else. What ya got?
Haven't lived there for ten years, but I liked the Princess Louise, Holborn, with its original Victorian urinals.. Lamb and Flag, Covent Garden.. but my memory is struggling to recall more.
Nag's Head, Kinnerton Street.
Grenadier, Wilton Row.
Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street.
The Cockpit, St Andrew's Hill, EC4.
The Blackfriar, Blackfriars Bridge.
The Sloaney Pony.
The Easton, Farringdon has a unique atmosphere but not typically London
The Southampton Arms Kentish Town deserves a mention
The Grapes, Limehouse.
Dogstar Coldharbour Lane Brixton
ye olde mitre Hatton Garden
The Hope Smithfield
The Jam Pot the city
Some blasts from the past there. Loved the Old Mitre.
Faltering Fullback, Finsbury Park
Any of these pubs sell a decent pint that doesn’t look like dishwater after a few mins ;0)
Faltering fullback is an irish boozer, not that I have an issue with that, as I love Irish pubs but not typically london pub.
Most proper london boozers have either shut down or gone down the gentrified hipster route.
There's few good ones left - The cock tavern in somerstown behind kings cross is still proper london.
The Lamb, Lamb's Conduit St
Princess Louise used to be great, now not so
The Harp, Covent Garden
The Lamb, Leadenhall market
Trafalgar Tavern, Greenwich
The Blackfriar, Blackfriars
A couple I have been to recently that retained some character
The Ship in Talbot Court off Eastcheap
The Champion Eastcastle Street.
Kings Arms, Rupell Street (but now a victim of its own success)
Ship Tavern, Holborn/ Lincolns Inn Field
Pride of Spitalfields, Heneage Street
Elephant & Castle, Holland Street
The Gun, IoD
The Ship in Talbot Court is a Nicholson’s like any other across the country.
The Ship round the corner on Harp Street is more “unique”.
A bit further east there’s the Princess of Prussia - the inside of that place is like a quirky museum.
edit: oh, and +1 on The Grenadier, love that pub.
Faltering Fullback, Finsbury Park
How did I not know about that? Used lived in Haringey for 12 years - I thought you were suggesting the one on the north circ!
The Salisbury, Green Lanes would make the list too
Another vote for The Southampton Arms, Kentish Town. I've not found a pub in London like it.
The Pineapple in Kentish Town.
Coach and horses & The French House in soho.
And gone but not forgotten Mistress P’s in Clapham!
Coach & Horses, Greek Street, Soho.
A proper traditional boozer that just happens to have a vegetarian/vegan menu and a couple of back cats that live there.
I always try and get there for a pint when I'm in London (note that's in London for pleasure not the daily commute).
Coach and Horses now soulless and most of the cartoons are gone as well as the local characters. Norman Balon used to make me laugh.
Coach and Horses a good shout. Was in there for tofu fish and chips a while back. Sad to hear it's been stripped of its charm.. though it did well to keep its local vibe for so long given the location. Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell!
Dog and Duck, while we're in Soho. The Ship in Wardour Street was a fave, Bowie used to rent the flat up the stairs from the lounge.
The Nell Gwynne
Cittie of Yorke in Holborn is always worth a visit.
Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese is great when it’s not rammed full of tourists.
Firtrovia tavern and brick layers arms seem both quite "London". 2nd the lamb.
The Ship is a Nicholson’s but how does that make it not a typical London boozer.
Blind beggar?
Nicholsons pubs are great, as are Sam Smiths. You can't go wrong in them.
The Blind Beggar unfortunately, well, the cockney expression "things aint how they used to be" spring to mind.
Firmly on the tourist trail these days.
The Birdcage in Bethnal Green is quite fun.
The Ship is terrible now, used to be the pre-gig venue for Marquee visits, suitably grubby. Last visit was huge dissappointment.
Likewise, there was a boozer next to the London Chamber of Commerce in Queen Street (pretty sure the manageress there ended up at the Ship) which is now flats / offices! Was a good lunchtime / early evening place.
Looking forward to checking out some of the above next time I visit. The Harp is a great little pub and serves its beer properly!
The french house is still good. As is the Spanish Bar (bradley's), downstairs dive perfection on a good night. But out of the centre, some good ones in Hackney - Prince George on wilton way - where I somehow met a good proportion of my london friends, bollocks is it not a friendly place, during a lock-in when enough london pride has been consumed anyway - Shakespeare up towards Stokey and a work your way up church st...
Simpsons chop house off Cornhill is one that hasn't changed much over the years.
It's a shame the Blue Posts in Rupert St., Soho got revamped. That really was a proper boozer.
Can't comment on current pubs, bit did anyone else used to drink at the dive bar in Chinatown?
Loved that place. Think it's a restaurant now.
Dive bar? Yup. Usually followed by an amusing visit to Wonkies.
John Snow is another.
The Blue Posts was where I used to go to track down someone that worked for me. He was a refugee from the Coach and Horses. The BP was a bit odd (to my mind) in that it had a long bar that was impossible to get to.
It's run by The Palomar next door currently.
Can’t comment on current pubs, bit did anyone else used to drink at the dive bar in Chinatown?
Spent many an evening there.
Anything good centralish actually open tonight?
I think Craft are open, Mike. http://www.thecraftbeerco.com/covent-garden/
Worth a call to double check, though.
Spent many an evening there.
It was a real haven of friendly, unpretentiousness and reasonably priced booze in the West end.
Always used to take people from out of town, to show London wasn't all so up itself after all.
