Blimey, didn't see that coming 😳
Got a bit dusty in this house just now.
Awesome series which just reinforced the chasm of quality between Unforgotten and Line of Duty with its BBC hype fest.
Great series but seriously depressing ending.
Poor Sunny. And the kids. And Rob. And Cassie’s dad. And her team.
I even felt sorry for the murderer.
Ram got what was coming to him though :-\
Shhhhh no spoilers please, on episode 4......
Brilliant series.
Some of the best writing and acting we've seen in ages.
I cried. Brilliant series. I hate cop shows as a rule but Unforgotten was different. Wonderful writing and the whole cast were superb, especially Nicola Walker. I don't usually get too hung up on an actor's performance but she is a superb actor. Monday nights will not be the same.
All 4 of them have been marvellous. The last two series were a "bit same-y" - group of people tied together by a terrible past event. But nevertheless, still great telly. Will there be any more I wonder? I like Sunny as a character, I'm not sure he could hold it up on his own though, and bringing in a new "Cassie" feels wrong.
Excellent, we’ve just finished watching the first 3 series.
Fabulous TV, although increasingly not a crime series, more a drama with a thread of a crime holding it together. Nicola Walker was outstanding, Peter Egan's acting at the end was heart breaking, very dusty here in the SMA household. Sanjeev Bhaskar was brilliant, the foil about whom this series rotated. His reading of the oration at the end will resonate with many.
Lots of people have compared it to LoD. They are very different in feel, pace and beliefs. Both are excellent, and both require you to have seen most of them to understand the characters. Perhaps the real way to compare them is to be glad that we are around when they have been broadcast.
And a final thought. In the era of binge watching, watching an entire series in a few days, it has been great to be looking forward to the next episode, a chance to reflect on what has happened, what will happen. Without simply pushing the "play next episode" button. The impact of this episode of Unforgotten is so much more because of the delay.
I saw the ending coming just as she let the clutch out a week ago.
It's a set up to give Sanjeev Bhaskar his own show. He's the Lewis to her Morse.
I'll enjoy it more when it's just him. He's the best thing in it.
Nicola Walker has been playing exactly the same character in everything she's ever been in since Spooks and it grates on me a bit.
Ram got what was coming to him though
Interesting take, in many ways I think he was the most damaged by the mistake the four made, and whilst very unsympathetic as a character ( deliberately so to help the narrative along) I felt sorry for him in the end.
Nicola Walker has been playing exactly the same character in everything she’s ever been in since Spooks and it grates on me a bit.
You iconoclast, you rebel! Soon you'll be over on the LoD thread moaning about acronyms and how Kelly Macdonald is not playing the same character as Keeley Hawes!!
She is the Tommy Lee Jones of the 9pm ITV drama world.
"What this drama needs is a highly competent (detective / spy / lawyer / vicar / farmer / inserts occupation here) who is emotionally troubled and has a difficult but ultimately loving relationship with her generic teenage children and generic cantankerous aged parents. Who should we cast?"
Agree with above that this was class tv - great writing and acting (apart from the ginger husband who was pants). Started watching this series at the same time as starting Bloodlands and the gulf in quality in both those key attributes is v apparent - BBC need to up their drama game.
So Kelly Macdonald is on LoD this series?....I may have to have a look......
