You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm currently listening to Dirty Epic and thought I'd find the lyrics to see what he's on about. Still not a clue as to what any of it might mean -
sweet in winter sweet in rain. shake well before use she said.
you never touch me anymore this way.
connector in. receiver out. you let me in through the back door.
ride the sainted rhythms on the midnight train to romford.
ride the sainted rhythms.
sweet in winter sweet in rain. shake well before use she said.
you never touch me anymore this way. oh no.
connector connector connector connector.
you're a connector connector connector connector.
i'm so dirty. and the light blinds my eyes.
you're oh so dirty. and the light it blinds my eyes.
here comes christ on crutches.
call me wet trampoline she said today. well i was too busy with my hand.
shake well before use she said but you never touch me anymore.
i was busy listening for phone sex
coming through the back door. in skin-tight trunks. and we all went mental...
and danced.
i get my kicks on channel six. i get my kicks on channel six...
to the off-peak...electricity.
and the light blinds my eyes. and i feel dirty.
and the light blinds my eyes. and i feel...so...shaken in my faith.
here comes christ on crutches.
and here comes another god. here comes another god like a buffalo thunder
with a...smell of sugar...and a velvet tongue...and designer voodoo.
and i got phone sex to see me through the emptiness in my 501s.
freeze-dried with a new religion. and my teeth stuffed back in my head.
i get my kicks on channel six. the light it burns my eyes.
and i feel so dirty. here comes christ on crutches.
i will not be confused. will not be confused. they left me confused.
i will not be confused...with another man.
this pressure of opinions.
lighten up. listen to your eyes, you said. but all i could see was doris day
in a big screen satellite. disappearing down the tube hole on farringdon street
with whiplash willy the motor psycho.
and the light it burns my eyes. and the light it burns my eyes.
i get my kicks on channel six...
what any of it might mean
None of it means anything.
Karl Hyde used to just write stuff down when he heard people saying it. And then stuff it into a song lyric later on.
Basically he's not getting any off the missus so he's yanking his todger to dodgy phone lines and babestation.
Maybe!

Just what I was going to say.
That track, live, at Homelands, one of the best experiences evah!
Five bonus points for guessing what I’m listening to now.
What the hell is Cowgirl or anything else on that album about?
It’s still the work of unbridled genius!
Wasn’t Karl Hyde just completely and utterly off his tits the whole time they recorded this. Thinking about it, like most of us were at the time 😃
My favorite lyric on that LP is from Spoonman
Don't put your hand
Where you wouldn't put your face
I worked with him on Fatherland a few years ago.
The show was pretty much written in that style - almost verbatim. He just turned sections of the script into songs. "that bit's a song...that bit's a song"
i bloody love that song.
But yeah Karl was a practising alcoholic for most of the 90's and apparently also suffers from synaesthesia, so god knows where his head was at.
Apparently in the 80s he was also a session guitarist at Paisley Park!
Such a damn fine song!

Hyde had scratched out a living as a session guitarist for Prince’s Paisley Park Studios near Minneapolis, the seed for their funky song of the same name. “I didn’t work with Prince though he was there assembling the New Power Generation,” he says. “As were the JB’s, James Brown’s band, who were shooting a documentary for the BBC. Both of these artists were a huge influence on my love of funk.
Ah, takes me back. Must dig out album when home from hols, probably won't bother with smoking special herbs down a dark lane in my mate's Nova GTE this time round though.
Aye simple innit, too much time fettlin yersen to grot and your missus will be... disappearing down the tube hole at farringdon street with whiplash willy the motorpsycho....
First cd I ever bought I think
Got a pair of tickets to see them at Wembley in December.
To say I'm excited is an understatement.
They're one of only two bands still on my bucket list to see.
Hopefully Queens Of The Stone age will follow shortly.
Sounds like a bit of a failing relationship & a bit of Coke & hookers to me!
It's been the soundtrack to many a dawn for me!
Tune.
Who cares what incoherent ramblings they are - put some headphones on in a dark room and have a near out of body experience swimming in the multiayers of sonic amniotic fluid.
Love getting the pub going with 'Rez' on the jukebox.
Also on my bucket list to see.
I'm off to see them in December too - should be great. Seen them quite a few times before and never been disappointed (dazed perhaps)!
Enjoy!
I remember going onto HMV in Manchester to buy this CD. To make you feel old, I also bought a Sega Mega-drive at the same time.
As a graphic designer it’s also my favourite sleeve artwork. I believe Mr Hyde was responsible for that too
