You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've been asked back to an ad agency for an interview after they saw me for something else recently - feedback was great but not the right experience for the first role.
I've seen that the account the job is on has been put up for review i.e. the agency may lose the account altogether in a few months. Unfortunately this is the way the industry works, and when we're not in a recession the agency would attempt to win other accounts to fill the void.
If a job offer were made, would you take it knowing there was a risk you may end up redundant is several months? They may also win the account and gave a more stable job for a couple of years after that.
Is it common practice to ask in an interview how they would try to protect your job if the account were lost?
At the moment I'm working on a recession-proof account at an agency with a good name, but they're taking the mickey by not promoting me commensurate with the job I do.
Can you risk your current situation for something your not sure about ?
Exactly. It's a gamble and I'd be significantly better off if I got the job and they kept the account. Although I'm in no financial difficulty at the moment, my low wage means I can't buy a house, get married, go on nice holidays etc that I'd like to.
If you haven't got significant debts/commitments I'd probably have a go for the new job. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Just make sure you leave your current company on the best terms possible, remind them how fantastic you are at your current job. They may counter offer, they may not. If it does go tits up and you left on a good note, they may ask you back.
I swapped through 3 jobs in reasonably fast succession (1-2 years in each) Each time getting on average an 10k payrise. However now I've got the fear...and having difficulty moving on....
If I were in your position monkey, I would ask them this
as you are already in a job you have the security that if they feel your rude it's no great loss. On the other hand the answer might be positive and then you have your answer. Also get your self off to W+K you know they make the best ads. 😉Is it common practice to ask in an interview how they would try to protect your job if the account were lost?
Good point, I'm in a position where I can have a look and not take it if I don't feel it's the right move.
Cheers for the advice fellas. I think I need someone to tell me to go for it!
(subject to them liking me of course)
