Does anyone know where is best for ultrafast charging near the NEC? I know they have a huge place on-site, but when I look online, it suggests there is a £13.95 parking charge on top of the actual charging cost. And, as the facility closes at 6pm, we would have to move our car to another car park (so another £13.95) as we are there right through until late evening.

NEC is right next to the airport and a big train station. I've not got an electric car, but those place would typically have chargers wouldn't they?

^ Well yes, but I was wanting to get advice on the best place (ie, most convenient, has ultra-fast charging, most likely to have working chargers available etc).

TBF, I am gob-smacked that the on-site station closes at 6pm when they have loads of events going into the evening!

If you are on the M42  near Shirley/Solihull there are Superchargers at the Tesla dealer that worked without a queue and were cheap for us. Old generation so fast but not super fast. The alternative we didn't use were the Superchargers near Elmdon airport.

Try this map:

https://chargefinder.com/en/charging-station-shirley-birmingham-mcdonald-s-shirley-a34/g6y3qk

It's showing a 160kw one at McDonald's in Shirley and several others nearby.

Otherwise Hopwood Park services on the M42 junction 2 has several Tesla chargers.

If you car supports ultra fast charging surely you'd need to move it anyway once it's charged rather than taking up a space?

But you pay for the privilege of using it as a car park (you can't think of it as a regular station). If we use it, we pay £13.95 to enter *on top of the charging cost*, then we'd have to pay another £13.95 to park elsewhere.

They sell it as Guaranteed parking space in designated area with EV charging facility.

Ahhh gotcha 👍🏻

(Sorry, I'm trying to learn about charging and thought you couldn't be in a charging space unless you're actually charging)

How long are you going to be parked, and how much charge do you need? Might be worth finding somewhere near that's cheaper to park for the duration with a slower charger, and do that....

In a car with "ultrafast" charging I'd just charge somewhere convenient en route rather than destination. Probably a Supercharger near a place to get a coffee.
