me and a couple friends were talking about doing a mega long ride.
we were thinking of cycling to Dover - Calais - Paris - Bordeaux - Madrid - Gibraltar.
obviously there are stop in between but that is the rough route ,
are there many people that do this?
am i being a bit ambitious ?
i was thinking 100 miles a day ?
it going to be a group of 4 cycling probably and 1 driving a car or van
Views ?
If you're supported with a van and do even a moderate amount of training 100 mile p/d should be fine as long as you eat properly.
There are a few people who do it, sometimes the other way round.
I think a military team (RAF) have just completed a similar route. You might find some info online. I know of someone who cycled Gib to Yorkshire solo. He said the views are quite amazing but also to be careful of travelling through larger towns due to bad driving.
Good luck with it. I live near Gib so let me know if you need any local info.
I did LeJog at 1,000 miles in 10 days, a couple of days off then off again on a tour of NW Scotland. I reckon that once you are past the 3rd day, you can do it on autopilot. Make sure you eat well, drink properly and do your stretches. I was advised to use compression tights each evening and it certainly didn't do any harm.
Give us a shout when you hit Madrid! That said, you might be better off heading down Burgos-Vallodolid-Salamanca-Caceres-Sevilla-Gibraltar, rather than through Madrid, you'll probably find quieter roads and a more "authentic" Spanish feeling to this bit of the ride. (And if you do head down that way, my wife's village is on the route so give me a shout anyway 🙂
Certainly sounds feasible, as pointed out assuming you make it past the first 3-4 days the rest shouldn't be a problem.
