You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Having had a winter like all others up here, we were deciding who's car has been best this winter at 8 miles of snowy and icy singletrack road. There have been lots of threads on here about what is best, 4x4's etc.
Worst: Land Rover 90 - been great to pull others out the ditches a couple of times with big shiny winch, but won't stop on snow or ice due to the sheer mass of the thing and nearly ended up in ditch a couple of times, uncomfy and noisy. For the 50% of the time there is no snow or ice actually to need diff lock, a total waste.
Best: 1999 Nissan Micra 1.3 with a pair of £25 chains on wet tyres. Nippy, warms up quick, comfy, stops, goes, had washer fluid freeze a couple of times (in -15 mind), got up everything that the landy did, stops when you want it to as it weighs bugger all, cost's pence to run and insure and still pulled my colleagues Focus out of a corner in the snow.
If you had a 29er you'd not need the Micra 😀
Hugs for you up there in the frozen North.
