You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I live in a highland village but work in inverness. I've been looking at a new car but its not ULEZ compliant and after a week of being in London I'm wondering if its wise.
I can cope with not driving into the 4 big cities but if they extend to Inverness i'd be buggered, and they dont **** about up here, theres no £12.50 daily charge- Its £60 for the first day doubling daily up to £480.
Would I be mad to buy it, I'd need to keep it for a good few years?

Until Inverness announce a two year or more lead in to this, I would not bother.
And Inverness is small enough to not need to drive around too much.

Given petrols since 2006 and diesels since 2015 are ULEZ compliant you're talking about an 8 year old car? That may be an issue if you want to keep it for a good few years. I'd be more worried about buying a diesel (which I assume it is) regardless of Ulez as I can see tax on diesels going up sharply and availability of fuel dropping and prices for diesel increasing as people switch to petrol and EV.
A ULEZ for Inverness would be a bit difficult. It would have to exclude the whole perimeter road and the A862. Selfishly, that would miss out 99% of my Inverness visits (other than maybe Raigmore) so impact on me would be minimal.

not necessarily. You can't get to heathrow without hitting one of the zones, almost everything within the m25 is covered by one from a london perspective
🙂 2013 and it would be the newest and most expensive car I've ever owned by a country mile!
Grab yourslf a 1982 Series 3 Landrover, preferably a smokey old diesel (or any 40 year old motor will do, saw a nice 6 litre Merc for sale the other day). And then drive around anywhere you please, safe in the knowledge you have done your bit for the environment by reusing rather than buying new.
I know Volvo estates are popular on here, and that they need to mae a good bike carrier as well. So how about this one as a long term ULEZ proof motor 😉
in scotland its 30 years for ULEZ 😉 although win some lose some - locally my wifes car is not ULEZ - but in england it is .... 2015 diesel.
also certainly locally - the ULEZ zone just excludes places cars* have no right being anyway.

That's rather my point. It's impossible to circumnavigate the centre of Inverness without excluding the roads I mentioned (and a few others).

I read once that nearly 80% of landrovers ever made are still on the road today
The other 20% made it home
I dont drive round Inverness, I drive to it for work. I'm supportive of the benefits of a ULEZ zone but don't think Inverness is in need so I'd rather use an older car till it dies. And when I say a good few years the longest one has ever survived is 3 years so I think I might go for it, my current car is awful

Here’s one I saw earlier today! 😁 And I’ve just noticed there’s a Land Rover behind it, but substantially newer!
