I have a feeling that as soon as the economy becomes slightly better everyone wants Labour in govt quickly because of the view that things can become better instantly. Like we want to eat our cake we want to eat it now!

If that is the case the cycle of Tories in govt will be short lived and as such the national debts, whatever that is, will never go down quick enough. Essentially, passing on the burden to the next generation but who cares you could be dead by then.

Tories means belt tightening to reduce debts but with the entire population being sweeten by the mentality of welfare state this will always be painful. Yes, many will suffer but then you have not had it so good for so long by comparison to many around the world.

UKIP is essentially a party that try to voice out something that both the above refused to acknowledge from the voters perspective. May it be immigrations or getting out of EU.

Lib Dem is so detached they don't make sense so not elect any of their members are simply wrong too, same goes to Green. Green is merely a side show ... good for balancing the voice of concern but they can be living in fairytale land.

I have voted for them one time or another but never staying with any of them for more than necessary.

I simply cannot understand the die hard mentality of supporting one party.

If there are many more like me that vote whoever I like aren't we the ones that are Kings/Queens maker? Aren't you lot suppose to bow down and kiss our shoes?

😆

Exactly, and this is why the established parties are worried enough to have to invent the sort of scare stories posted at the start of this thread. I had a Labour flyer through my letterbox yesterday claiming UKip would privatise health care - which shows how worried they are that about UKip, and how much trouble they are in with Wallace at the helm. I can't wait for May, it should be fun. BTW, UKip.would get my vote if we didn't have a good Tory MP in our constituency. 😀

Sorry, what was "invented"?

UKIP have acknowledged the original story and dropped the Lynton Yates as a candidate.

If it was invented then surely they might have said something?

Clearly, you're not beyond a bit of invention yourself. I think you ought to give UKIP your vote if you're that aroused by them.

Hey, I didn't even read the OP's post, never mind the thread :D, I'm just trying to wind up the socialistrackworld contingent. UKip now speak for the working class folk in my northern town, and Labour don't anymore. Lucky for me, I live out in the country.

Yes, you can. You can also choose to keep quiet about it. If, however, you actively broadcast your intentions and views, then you can expect some dissent.

Yes, I like dissent. Not a problem really. Seriously I do not expect anyone to agree with me. If nobody argues STW is going to be a very boring place to be in. I like alternative viewpoints the more the better as this makes it more lively.

Put it this way, would you argue with yourself? Like speaking to the mirror? Talking to like minded people is exactly like that. Boring.

😆

How can it be meaningless or waste of vote? Everyone votes for something that means something to them is it not?

To me all those political talks are drivel and the only difference between them is the ability to spin better than the others. The one that spin better wins. 🙄

Everyone votes for something that means something to them is it not?

..and what means something to you is bikes off the road and on pavements with pedestrians having priority? Or banning the unemployed from the roads which will take 6million cars off the roads even though there's only 800,000 unemployed? Or perhaps that congestion is all the fault of those damn immigrants? Ok, in the brightness stakes you're not going to give an energy saving lightbulb anything to worry about and that's fine, you're the UK Idiot Party's target market, but you really need to stop kidding yourself on that believing that guff shows any kind of self-awareness or capacity for independant thought. It's not, it's just trotting out one meaningless soundbite after another marketed at the foaming at the mouth Daily Wail readership.
Sometimes I read this guff and it's really enjoyable. Farage is one of the funniest peopole around, completely beyond satire. Then I realise that there are people who actually believe it and take it seriously and I despair and wonder what happened to our education system that it can let people down so badly that they give this bunch of clowns any more than the time of day.

I don't agree with anything that clown said to be honest hence there may be logic but unrealistic.

I will still vote for Farage but I vote for him as he got the guts to shout around that non of the major political parties dare to. 😆

As for others who vote for a particular political ideology and think they are god sent (political ideology/policy etc) ... Geeezzz ... they deserve all they get.

I will still vote for Farage

Like I said, not the brightest - you vote for the party, this "clown" as you put it was selected by the party to represent them. Really - are you struggling to understand that? Ah sorry UKIP voter, it's not actually possible to underestimate your reasoning abilities. Were you going to say that it's just this one that's a clown, but all the others are thoroughly decent chaps? Like, for example Geoffrey (Bongo Bongo Land) Bloom, maybe Alex Wood..[img] [/img] (seems like a nice boy), or maybe you're thinking of Chris ("sandal-wearing, bomb-making, camel-riding, goat-f******, ragheads" )Pain. Or perhaps you're thinking of Nigel Farage who bravely speaks out against tax avoidance whilst hiring a tax accountant to set up a trust fund in an off-shore tax haven.
Still, this is as you point out, a democracy and if these are the sort of misogynistic, bigoted, racist hypocrites you can identify with, then you should vote for them. Personally though, I'd be a bit embarrassed about mentioning it in public

That is not a UKIP candidate but just a voter like many others.

Or are you following the UKIP line of being too stupid/lazy to find out what you're talking about before spouting off?

I know my reasons (logical or illogical) for voting for a particular candidate but others just disagree with my choice.

You do know that when you own up to taking UKIP seriously, people know you're an idiot, you don't need to prove it?

😆 I think you are taking yourself too seriously. Relax man, relax. This is interweb and we are all low in brain juice like it or not. Besides, I am voting UKIP in a Labour stronghold so how much impact can that be? Or how hard can that be?

However, if UKIP can win a seat in a Labour stronghold of NE then Labour/Lib Dem(councils) will have a serious problem. They are both not only out of touch but out of ideas. Consider this, if the people with low brain juice can feel the pinch then you have a serious issue, bear in mind these are the people that can be manipulated and normally do not even know truly know what hit them ...

😯

I am afraid there are too many that will infiltrate the party to get their own agenda across ... let's see how they progress to something civilised.

Look, I don't know what your agenda is so you might want to clarify that for me.

Question - Have you voted for one party all your life?

Mine is simple. No party should be comfortable and must be made to work very hard for their position i.e. job, regardless of their ideology. To me they are all bureaucratic ZMs.

The "out of touch" Newcastle council has the strongest support for the Space For Cycling campaign outside of London, the council leader actually led the last mass ride through the city, and the council succeeded in securing the Cycle City Ambition Funds to improve cycling infrastructure.

So your plan is to shake them up a bit by voting in a party that is demonstrably anti-cycling?

You call that cycle lane? More like hazardous lane ...

Until they create a proper cycle lane (not sharing with cars etc) I ain't putting my life in danger. You can cycle around if you wish but I am not.

I want Scandinavian style cycle lane ...

So your plan is to shake them up a bit by voting in a party that is demonstrably anti-cycling?

Makes no difference really as there are hardly proper cycle lanes.

(not to mention the xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny and general stupidity)

Yes, they do have some candidates with low brain juice but all parties have except theirs are more obvious because they are a small party, while many of the larger parties seem to have them hiding somewhere in the background without getting noticed.

Yes but other parties have the sense to keep the people with low brain juice hidden in the background.

In UKIP those people are the candidates you are voting for, the people that will represent you on a national and international level.

Regarding cycling, Chi Onwurah MP spoke passionately and at length during the "Get Britain Cycling" parliamentary debate. A debate which helped drive the changes in gov attitude to cycling that we are seeing recently.

That's proper representation.

A UKIP guy would be too busy banging on about how all the congestion was caused by unemployed homosexual immigrants on bikes. 😀

Don't we all? Do you reckon UKIP are the party to give you it?

Read the responses from their candidate in Cambridge.
Bear in mind he is answering questions from the Cambridge Cycle Campaign in a city with a LOT of voting cyclists:

http://www.camcycle.org.uk/elections/2013maycounty/eastchesterton/

They ask him if he would support proposals for Dutch style segregated lanes and he says:
"No. This proposal amounts to theft from the people who pay to use roads and the benefit given to those who don't." 🙄

I would agree with that Graham. I disagree with UKIP objectives. They are fairly new and far from polished. Any one that thinks UKIP are the sole preserve of racists is deluding themselves.

Graham,

They ignore the voters at their own peril really if they do not engage their brain energy before speaking.

If they say no to cycling in Cambridge, Dutch style lane, then they need to test out their theory by putting it to the voters. If the voters disagree then they don't get voted in. Simple. But I doubt the entire Cambridge population is cycling voters. Might be the norm to cycle around but the population is definitely not just cyclists. Who knows majority might not like to see cyclists but just prefer not voice out ...

My view is that UKIP will go through the process of evolution by selecting and deselecting candidates as they go along until such time as they can be taken seriously. At the moment there are plenty of rough edges in them ... just like any party that first started their political journey. 😮

Edit: I like Ed Milliband (entertainment value) but some of the front bench candidates really make me puke esp. the Balls (both), Chuka Umunna, Flint ...
