My wifes off back to England for a month and I'm trying to order a sim card so she can at least be connected while shes there.

Shes bringing her Canadian phone...
HSPA(3G) 850/1900/2100
GSM GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900

Which UK network that her handset will work with is best for me to get a 2g/3g sim card from?

Thanks

O2 and Voda are 2G/3G at 900MHz
EE is 2G/4G at 1800MHz (not 3G)
Three shares EEs network
All networks are 3G at 2100MHz.

Alternatively, find out what network her phone would auto roam to, and get one of their SIMs that way it'll def work (assuming it's unlocked).

(Having just googled, Rogers phones will roam to all networks and Telus wasn't so obvious...)

Yep, what Ewan said. So the short answer is "any of them." all 2G in the UK is either 900 and 1800, and I think 3G is solely 2100, all of which her phone supports.

The next question is whether or not her phone is carrier locked by her existing provider. She might have to call them to get it unlocked.

Probably easier just to buy a cheap PAYG?

It's academic in terms of the question but, really? I didn't know that if so.

Surely she needs to have the fight with her carrier?

In the UK they're obliged to do it out of contract. Dunno what the case is in that Canada.

What phone is it? Push comes to shove it might be hackable. Failing that, as TTS says you can get a new entry-level PAYG phone for buttons and used one for less.

Easier yes, but shes taking our nexus7 so I want her to be able to tether data to the phone so I can do the bedtime story thing with my kids when shes places with no adsl.

Couples plan..i'm the primary on the account.

Fight.. Fido charge $50 to unlock..I managed to persuade them to bill credit that charge.
I purchased handset outright.. had it repaired with a warranty maninboard swap.. Fido no longer recongnises the new IMEI as a Fido product.. I have to provide proof that it is a fido handset before they will unlock..

Phone is an LG Optimus 2x.. so still relatively current - in canadian technology terms 😉

It was a project I've been part of for the last couple of years..

Any recommendations for a 1 month sim only plan with data?

USe will be Modbury, Newbery and Nottingham.

Prefer tethering rolled in.

3 has a 15/mo plan with unlimited data, but offers tehering at +5/mo
Or should I not worry if I'm andriod handset tethering to android tablet?

Phone coverage - Voda
Mobile data 3G - Three
4G - EE
Nothing good - T-Mobile

IME, 3 are bastards and I'd rather live in a cave than give them my money. Charging extra for tethering is taking the piss.

How about giffgaff?

Do they? That's a bit pants. And renders my post somewhat ironic.
