No but half the blokes in my TKD club could kick his arse.
Wow it only seems like a few weeks ago he was fighting, I guess they go more often in MMA. No idea but that dude looks like he is cast in concrete.
that dude looks like he is cast in concrete.
Exactly that. Looks like you could hit him in the face all night and achieve nothing but broken knuckles.
Where is WML these days anyway?

Away on a remote island fighting in the Kumite
I love McGregor, I love the fact he thinks he is hot shit and can beat the whole world, I love the fact that he thinks he IS the UFC and I would absolutely love to see him get knocked out.
I just don't understand why nobody takes him to the ground...
After the last thread went so well it's nice that we get another go.
I read recently that John Kavanagh was talking about a potential move up to welterweight for McGregor after this fight. There's being confident and then there's taking the piss.
Yeah that's ridiculous. You could be the fittest guy in the world, there is no way he's fighting 6 times a year.
I just don't understand why nobody takes him to the ground...
Maybe you're being too subtle for me here, but Mendes had him on his back for most of the fight, dishing out some proper punishment in the process. However, in retrospect, McGregor got a lot of credit for how he managed it: conserving energy, landing a fair number of strikes from the bottom position and ultimately avoiding Mendes' guillotine, before getting back to his feet and knocking him out.
McGregor talked the talk and walked the walk against Aldo so respect earned. Potentially the sporting performance of the year given Aldos history. He's also usually 170 day to day so think he's in with a real shout given his movement and striking angles. Mano n Mano so gotta love the confidence as nowhere to hide and no one to blame!
Dos Anjos has been stopped by dropped by fighters less skilled at striking than mcgregor. If anyone beats him it needs to be one of these world class jujitsu guys and it'll be by choke.
You could be the fittest guy in the world, there is no way he's fighting 6 times a year.
His fights don't tend to last that long. The Notorious should win this one but i don't think he'll get as lucky in an Aldo rematch.
^ ^Lol @tinybits,TMA's FTW eh ! Lmao ...
You know it's a joke?
Did you see the last UFC thread. Now you will LYAO if you read the stuff on there!
I can't wait. Also, I cannot bet against McGregor. That doesn't mean I'm 100% of course 😉
RDA lacks an explosive shot, his wrestling comes from BJJ and he uses strikes to close distance. He's an incredible fighter BUT he's actually had something of a "lucky" run. Nick Diaz didn't show up to fight, and he has the perfect antidote to Pettis' style.
Pettis caught RDA numerous times as he was coming in and in the pocket, including a good few uppercuts. But he threw everything from his arms, backing up. I can't McGregor will be so easily backed up, nor will RDA be able to shrug off his uppercut so easily.
Eddie Bravo agreeing with WML:
Haha...the last thread was my fav on STV ever!!
I really want Connor to win and I was a bit doubtful at first, physiologically I was thinking 'he's fighting bigger, stronger opponents at 155' but logically Connor is too big to fight at 145. The cut must take it's toll and therefore Connor may not even be his best, fittest or strongest at 145 at 155 I think he will be a power house, there are a fair few fighters who moved up to their natural weight and fought much much better.
Connors ring craft, fluidity, flexibility or speed should not deteriorate at 155 but his strength and power will be greater...I think he'll nail RDA! It ain't going be easy but I reckon he's got it!!
As for 170...probably one step too far, I reckon he may have Robbie but would struggle more with others in the division.
nwill1As for 170...probably one step too far, I reckon he may have Robbie but would struggle more with others in the division.
Robbie would be a great match up for Conor. He's not that big for a WW and he likes to stand and trade even when he doesn't need to.
He might have an easier night against Lawler than he would with Alvarez or Nurmegamedov.
Conor might do OK against Robbie but he would get absolutely destroyed by Stephen Thompson based on last weeks fight against Hendricks.
McGregor is Taller and has a longer reach than RDA.
regarding the fignt frequency, didn't RDA fight after McGregor, just before christmas, when he beat Cowboy?
McGregor wasn't at 100% at 145. too small, too dehydrated. I think he'll do RDA in less than a round, I think his striking power will be too much.
Conor might do OK against Robbie but he would get absolutely destroyed by Stephen Thompson based on last weeks fight against Hendricks.
Really? Hendricks stood right in front of a bigger man, allowed himself to be bullied and hit at will and did nothing to alter the way the fight was going. looked slow, out of shape and devoid of any ideas.
I agree. Hendricks looked in good condition, but fought like he was all about getting paid, and getting out of there.
I think Hendricks just couldn't find a range that would let him do anything. Thompson was doing a good job of controlling the distance using the threat of kicks and then choosing when to strike.
This style of fighter is becoming more and more common in MMA. Justin Scoggins is another one worth a look.
Hendricks looked like a late stage AIDS victim. He was a shell. I think hes better when he's chunkier. However the IV ban probably means he can't carry the extra weight and still cut.
Anyone seen the promo stuff for Kimbo vs DADA 5000 tomorrow night? Cringeworthy. Not to mention Royce vs Shamrock. Bellator: setting MMA back 20 years 😥

I was listening about it on the Co-Main Event podcast*, and they were essentially saying the same. That even as a novelty it was all getting a bit much. Problem is they must be getting decent numbers with these things, so will keep doing it. To my shame, I will probably watch the fight after the event on the internet somewhere.
....although, the CM Punk situation in UFC makes me raise an eyebrow as well.
*Excellent MMA podcast in case anyone doesn't listen to it.
If McGregors going to do it, it will be in the first, possibly the second. Any longer then its Anjos. My moneys on McGregor because he looks for the knockout and is willing to take a (hopefully glancing) hit to get it. Bigger doesn't always mean they're going to win, have you seen McGregor move?
BruceWeeI think Hendricks just couldn't find a range that would let him do anything. Thompson was doing a good job of controlling the distance using the threat of kicks and then choosing when to strike.
Agreed. After Wonderboy side kicked Hendricks into next week, then faked the body and hit him with a headkick Johnny's game went out the window.

Yeah the Scoggins fight was impressive. That's one of the great things about MMA, it's constantly in flux and constantly evolving.
bongohoohaaI was listening about it on the Co-Main Event podcast*,
Take a listen to "Let's get it on" and "Heavy Hands" while your at it.
Will check them out. Just listening to Joe Rogan's latest. this morning. It's got Bas Rutten on there, who is as entertaining as ever.
I just skipped through the Dada 5000 v Kimbo fight.
Everyone involved should be ashamed. I recommend watching it purely to amaze yourself that this shit was allowed to go ahead.
Probably the worse fight I have ever seen.
Final minutes: https://streamable.com/qlcj
Yip. Putting MMA back 25 years. Gracie vs Shamrock wasn't much better 🙁
I think cardio was the real winner in that fight.
Probably the worse fight I have ever seen
Is there a non slow mo version of the end?
Also I have just discovered that using your chin makes for a fairly poor defence.

Bollocks.
Have to postpone the fight, surely? Who they going to get in with 2 weeks notice, with no time for a proper camp either, who will be ready/viable? Nate Diaz maybe? Obviously this means we would be denied several months of the most epic shit talking, but I can live with that. Only other person I can think of is Don-ald Cer-ro-ne.
Also, why does this keep happening to McGregor? First Aldo, so Chad Mendez had to come in, now this?
Cerrone has apparently said he'll fight.
Also talk of Diaz which would be a simply fantastic build up 8)
bongohoohaa

Cerrone just fought, took no damage. Have to wonder at Diaz. He's bound to be game.
Diaz v Mcgregor.
is the world ready for that amount of trash talk?

Yup, and raring to go. So if he's ready to fight at UFC London, then no issue with the timing of the UFC 196.
On a sidenote, Bisping still getting fights always surprises me. If the UFC need a UK fighter for the marketing people, then just unban Paul Daley, as he is a machine.
That DADA5000 bloke had a heart attack and suffered acute renal failure after his fight, according to what I just read he dropped 40lbs in two weeks prior to the fight, diuretics a go go 😯

That's like saying I thought football looks after their players. It's not the sport that is at fault, it is the one organisation. In this case Bellator.

Texas Athletic commission really are to blame here, or at least equally share the blame with Bellator. Medics used a "visual test" to determine whether Dada was too dehydrated to fight or not. Both he and Kimbo had passed all necessary medical tests.
I thought MMA looked after their fighters
Different U.S states or countries have different sanctioning bodies with different rules and different standards of testing. A fight promoter can enforce stricter tests than the state/national testing body, but not more lenient. The UFC's testing goes above pretty much any U.S state or national testing body in terms of fighter health and P.E.D use.
Who or what is Bellator? Know nothing about MMA as would of been seen in the legendary thread.
They are one of the larger MMA organisations notorious for freak show match ups. They were recently bought by Viacom so the expectation is they will try and build an organisation equal to or greater than the UFC. Not like that they won't.
just realised that takedown is very nearly an anagram of taekwondo
Not like that they won't.
I am hoping this was some sort of contractual thing, and they just had to squeeze this last piece of detritus out of the tube before they can start to focus on remodelling and improving Bellator.
Signing fighters like Bendo shows an intent to get some real fights on the go.
What weight is Bendo going to be fighting at in Bellator - is he sticking at 170 or back to 55?
I'd like to see him fight Brooks and Chandler but I don't think there are too many guys on that 155 roster that could realistically challenge him outside those two to be honest. Rematch with Josh Thompson maybe.
170 they could stick him in there with Paul Daley. That I would watch.
Diaz has stepped in!!!
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssss
at 170!!!
not sure Cowboy is going to be delighted at that.
and not sure where it leaves UFC 200. surely thompson deserves a shot at Lawler, so is 200 now:
RDA v McGregor,
Thompson v Lawler
Rousey v Holm (if she wins)
aldo v edgar
Let the shit talking commence!

not so sure.
I know it won't last a round, and it will be a stand up brawl, but Nate is an animal, you never know, one good shot...

Nate is awkward, durable and rangey with incredible BJJ and good boxing but he lacks knock out power. He grinds people down.
If he's smart he'll try to take Conor down and look for a submission, but I can't see him trying.
I know I shouldn't be, but I am more stoked for this fight than Dos Anjos.
Like a really tasty appetiser, and the mains will still be coming at some point 🙂
I got my McGregor by round 3 KO at 9/1.
Can't help but feel a bit "meh" about McGregor vs. Diaz. After watching back some of Dos Anjos' more dominant performances (e.g. Petis, and Diaz himself), I honestly thought we'd see him win a very entertaining fight. Still, the possibility of things going very differently to how one might predict is an obvious part of its appeal.
What do people reckon regarding McGregor's ability to get up to welterweight at 2 weeks notice? Diaz' corner has been accusing him of all sorts of steroid jiggery-pockery. Presumably, he'll have been intending to cut weight to get to 155 for Dos Anjos, then found himself needing to do the opposite. Wonder how much he ultimately needed to put on? He looks markedly bigger in the recent build-up videos, talking all the while about how many pies he's had that day.
arrpeeWhat do people reckon regarding McGregor's ability to get up to welterweight at 2 weeks notice?
He's already on weight. He doesn't have to "go up" at all. He just doesn't have to come down.
arrpee

Selling the fight. Typical salty Diaz rhetoric.
Presumably, he'll have been intending to cut weight to get to 155 for Dos Anjos, then found himself needing to do the opposite.
He had plenty of time to cut, lean muscle holds more water than fat. These guys can lose 18-20lbs of water in 24hrs.
he walks around at 170. He hasn't cut anything.
I agree re. the excitement, it hasn't got the same kudos of the RDA fight.
I think Diaz is there for the payday, and is kind of coming across like win or lose he just wants a payday. It won't last a round.
These guys can lose 18-20lbs of water in 24hrs.
Christ, can you imagine how horrendous that must feel? You'd be pissing sand.
arrpeeChrist, can you imagine how horrendous that must feel? You'd be pissing sand.
Well, people have died doing it so yeah. Can't feel good.
Actually....I take it back, this is my favourite:
Well...I am £45 richer. 8)
Yeah I ended up sticking £20 on Diaz after seeing the weigh in. McGregor just looked "off" to me.
Social media inevitably filled with clueless people saying McGregor is a hype job. All we learned last night is he has no business fighting at that weight. If Diaz can do that with two weeks notice and no proper camp, imagine what the likes of Cerrone would have done to him.
Most pleased for Miesha though. Didn't give her much of a chance against Holm which raises the question, did Rousey just have an off night against her?
Yeah, I think the idea of Conor as a force at 170 is and always was overly optimistic.
Last nights fight wasn't even a commentary on that imho, what we really saw was 2 natural 155lb-ers in there. Nate has always been better at 155. Remember the Mcdonald shellacking? We all know that Conor struggles to make 145 and he's fought equally as successfully at lightweight.
The difference in my opinion was the reach. Conor forced to overextend constantly looking for that left hand. Plus the fact that Nate is a Diaz and therefore tough as nails and very skilled.
I'm also pleased for Miesha. Sad for Holly, but it's nice to see Tates hard work finally paying off. Thought it would be a case of always the bridesmaid for her so fair play.
I think the jury is out on Holm at the moment.
Didn't look particularly great in any of her UFC fights bar the Ronda bout. Efficient maybe but not great.
Rousey came straight at her - bull matador style which was perfect for the way Holly likes to fight. She's a great athlete but time will tell I think.
She was winning on the scorecards up until then too. Hope she comes back strong and starches Rousey again in a title eliminator.
I think Connor maybe has another shot at 170, but he needs to work on his wrestling. Messing about with pool noodles is all well and good, but that's not going to help your ground game with a BJJ black belt like Nate. Saying that, Lawler probably would destroy him so 155lbs is probably his ideal.
I think my favourite line from Nate was:
I would have a lot more knockouts on my record, but as soon as they start getting landing on they start shooting, and all the sudden they become wrestlers
Also, the curse of EA covers continues....

I like Connor but I think he now has to accept he's king in the smaller division but can't walk through the divisions, as he goes up his power gets less and opponents chins get stronger not to mention they hit harder. (For those that didn't watch he was screwed before it hit the floor, punch drunk like Ronda was).
I can't now see a convincing reason why he will get a shot at the 155 belt. TBH he needs to works massively on his ground game cause he's come up very short once again. If said Diaz was a good boxer with exceptional ground/BJJ on social media and felt the upset might be there.
Connor (like Hollie Holme) has proved to be a one dimensional fighter in MMA, good stand up but you can't be like that in MMA.
I see a short and unsuccessful MMA career for Connor from here on out, every one will use the take down and ground game against him, look at Petisbeaten once then every body follows suite with strategy!
Never rated Hollie Holme myself, not really done great in UFC until Ronda, was winning fights but bloody boring she wouldn't open up, very much a counter fighter and Ronda bum rushed her and play into her strengths. Hollie doesn't have a ground game right now...bit like Connor!
God. Dammit.
Ah well. Great event. Great fights. McGregor and Diaz were awesome.
Connor* (like Hollie Holme*) has proved to be a one dimensional fighter in MMA, good stand up but you can't be like that in MMA.
You should probably tweet Conor* and Holm* and tell them what not to do. I'm sure they don't have a clue 😉
Ah well. Great event. Great fights
You watch the same card as me? The two best fights didn't include men. The other fights were a bit one dimensional. Really glad Diaz won. Always liked him as a fighter and he deserves the limelight and riches he'll get for this. Hopefully it'll shut McGregor up for a while. I like him and he plays the game better than anyone, but he's not even the best fighter as his own weight never mind stepping up. He was too cocky before and during the fight. If he'd listened to his corner that fight was his.
EuroYou watch the same card as me? The two best fights didn't include men.
Evidently not since there were a ton of good fights other than the girls. Ishihara v Erosa was great (I wanted to see Erosa get smashed). Saggo v Salas was a BJJ masterclass, and Sanchez Miller was a war. Taleb v Silva was awesome. Miranda v Guimaraes was awesome too.
Anderson v Lawlor and Latifi v Villnate were crap, but other than that a great night of fights and the main event was just phenomenal. No feeling out, no gaming, just trying to kill each other from start to finish.
Anderson v Lawlor and Latifi v Villnate
That's the only two others i saw. Seems i got the 'lite' download. That's what you get when to grab the first torrent you see.
Casual fan in hastily formed opinion shocker 😛
